Chudleigh Primary School is situated on a narrow B Road called Lawn Drive. During school start and finish times vehicles are parked on both sides of the road, in effect making it a one lane carriageway. The vehicles often park bumper to bumper and park across the lowered curbs and crossing points.
This makes it impossible for pushchairs and wheelchairs to cross between the cars. It is impossible for children and their parents/carers to have a clear and unobstructed view of the road and we feel that a future accident is inevitable unless action is taken.
Near misses of children crossing this road have been numerous.
We the undersigned call on Devon County Council Highways Department to support and introduce extended parking restrictions, two pelican crossings and a school crossing patrol to the outside of the school on Lawn Drive.
This would include extended zig zag lines and new zig zag lines accompanied by two pelican crossings and single yellow lines on the opposite side of the road to mirror the zig zag lines and to extend into the first 10 metres of palace meadow.
We want to stop dangerous parking outside the school and make it safe for children, parents and carers to cross the road.
