There are many skateboarders in the Picayune, Mississippi area, yet the closest skatepark is fourty-five minutes away!
Skateboarders in this area are subject to skating in unallowable spots which causes them to be kicked out, and even put in jail.
There are no laws prohibiting skateboarding, but any grinding on curbs, rails,etc. and jumping off of high ledges is considered a defacement of public property which leads to fines and/or jailtime.
We, the undersigned, recognize the importance of a free skatepark in the Picayune, Mississippi area. We understand that other recreational mediums are in place for traditional sports (baseball, football, soccer, basketball, tennis, swimming, golf,etc), and believe that there should be a place that skateboarders can excel also.
We see that there are many skateboarders in our area and believe that the current mode of our city qovernment does not aid in the advancement of such a talent.
