The current Pope Benedict xvi whilst the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, circulated a letter in 1985 dealing with the case of Rev. Stephen Kiesle (a convicted paedophile).

In the letter the then Cardinal Ratzinger said Kiesle's removal would need careful review. Cardinal Ratzinger also urged 'as much paternal care as possible' for Kiesle and that the 'good of the universal Church' needed to be considered in any defrocking. This is tantamount to perverting the course of justice. Kiesle wasn't defrocked until 1987 - fully six years after the case came to light.

We, the undersigned, call on the government of The United Kingdom to issue a warrant for the arrest of Pope Benedict XVI when he visits the United Kingdom in September on a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

As head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith the then Cardinal Ratzinger issued a letter to the Diocese of Oakland effectively urging a delay in the defrocking of a convicted paedophile priest.
