The Abolition of God

Is it not time that humanity, as a species forgot about 'God'? Is he not simply a primitive evolutionary response as to why the sun rises and sets? Is he not the shackle that holds us to the past?

Too long have I seen advancements in technology barred and pinned by the almighty Church, Mosque and Synagogue, on arguments of hubris. They say that we should not play ‘God’, we should not interfere in the work of a being which we have absolutely no solid evidence for, no qualitative accounts of and no single observation leading us directly to ‘him’. Yet countless wounds have been caused, countless wars have been waged, countless families have been divided and slaughtered, in the struggle for this so-called entity’s favour. ‘He’ is but a relic of our violent past, and he must be forgotten, on the part of one person at a time. I call to you, the public, the free-thinking collective of the human race, break these shackles of religion and belief.

We are alone in this world, except for each other, and we must no longer allow an ‘almighty creator’ to divide our solidarity as a species. As you have likely gathered, I am an atheist, a man of science. Yet I do not seek to destroy hope, as hope is not encapsulated in – as a famous comedian once said – ‘a big beardy man living on a cloud’. Hope is encapsulated in our innovation and will to advance as a species. ‘God’ is a gatekeeper and obstacle to our future. Yet he only exists for as long as we allow him to exist, within our own minds. For you to be reading this petition there must be a glimmer within you, which knows that God is no longer necessary to our survival, he is our greatest liability.

For a modern example of why he holds us back, I turn your attention to stem cell research. To the innumerable people who have suffered and died under forms of cancer, Parkinsons, and countless other diseases. Whether god induced those diseases, I don’t know, but I do know that he was, is, the greatest obstacle in preventing them from being destroyed. Remove the obstacle, and unflinching progress can be made In saving infinite lives. I ask you. Why can God never be proved or disproved, no matter how deeply we look into the universe? Maybe because he does not exist ‘out there’, he only exists ‘in here’. In our minds. Why cling to false hope when it blinds us to the true hope, the hope within one-another, here on Earth – those we can see, hear, speak to, and touch?
