During the current Cumberland Public School administration's tenure, the achievement test scores have continued to drop.

The test score data from the 2003-2004 school year labeled Cumberland High School as high performing and improving and was considered a Regents' Commended School. The same test score data from the 2006-2007 school year have labeled Cumberland High School with the Caution tag.

We now have less that half of the students who should make up the current senior class at Cumberland High School scoring proficient in either Math or English. What has happened during this administration to allow our high school to go from a commended school to a school that is viewed with caution?

The School Committee is currently looking at rewarding this performance with a contract extension of either one or three years past the current contract, which is set to expire in June of 2008.

We, the parents and residents of Cumberland, Rhode Island, demand that the School Committee of Cumberland start to listen to our voices and take into account what we would like to see happen, for the sake of our children.

We have no confidence in the superintendent or Central Administration. We do not want our School Committee to grant any contract extension past June 2008.
