1. PLEASE HELP STOP THE HUMAN insult IN HAITI: the people are eating mud to survive
HELP STOP THE INSULT OF THE HAITIAN PEOPLE EATING MUD TO SURVIVE.
While in the US, we throw away 27% of our meals every day, some neighbours not far from us are destitute of any meal!
"With food prices rising, Haiti's poorest can't afford even a daily plate of rice, and some take desperate measures to fill their bellies."
"When my mother does not cook anything, I have to eat them three times a day," Charlene said. Her baby, named Woodson, lay still across her lap, looking slightly thinner than the slim 6 pounds 3 ounces he weighed at birth." USA TODAY 1/30/2008
In the face of such crisis, humanity's attention is to be ARRESTED. Please help STOP the crisis in the world's poorest country, poorest for obtaining their independence from their colonists 200 years. What a dear price to pay, for what is rightful to every human society today! Should that be and remain?
ExxonMobil’s Chalmette Refining, LLC uses Hydrofluoric Acid (HF), a highly dangerous and lethal chemical used in its oil refining processes.
Newer, safer processes have been developed, including modified HF, patented by the ExxonMobil Corporation. The refinery is located in an area vulnerable to hurricanes (such as Katrina and Rita) increasing the possibility of a fatal accident.
Should an HF release occur, the entire New Orleans area risks death and injury. The only safety measure that protects a million plus people from this danger is a man made water wall, subject to both human and mechanical failure.
TELL EXXONMOBIL TO TAKE AWAY HF AND PROTECT THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS AREA!! PROTECT YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND AN AMAZING CITY!!
3. Value Life Itself Above All Else !!!
NEW MOVEMENT FOR SURVIVAL
Reasoned persuasion on the basis of scientific evidence is not enough to result in effective change of individuals or governments.
Other motives and values drive them, and have to be brought to the surface of awareness for re-evaluation, in order for behavioural change to be sustainable.
The predominent Western ideology of economic growth, consumerism and exploitation of human and natural resources, is the main driver of behaviour causing both climate change and all the other current threats to survival.
The New Movement for Survival proposes an alternative, all-inclusive global ideology aimed to ‘Value Life Itself Above All Else’.
The Movement will appeal to those already persuaded and then snowball out to draw in as many other people as possible, and so reach a critical mass of influence on both individuals and governments, working in coalition with all likeminded groups.
DECLARATION & SUPPORTING PLEDGES
These help to reinforce the Main Pledge. They can be viewed and selected via the web-site link. They begin with simple lifestyle changes and then progress to ones which require deeper reflection and consideration of priorities and values.
... AND BACKGROUND ARGUMENTS
are also on the web-site link, along with the origin of the New Movement.
4. Support Proposal to List Polar Bears As "Threatened"
Send in your public comment to support listing polar bears as a "Threatened" species!
Polar bears really need our help: according to government studies in recent months, more and more are starving to death, and more and more of their babies are dying before reaching adulthood. In fact, of polar bears studied between 1990 and last spring, only 25 cubs per 100 females survived. That's less than half the survival rate of polar bear cubs studied from 1967 to 1989!
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is requesting public comments regarding the listing of polar bears as a "Threatened" species. In just 5 minutes, you can send in your public comment - just sign this petition.
5. Responsible Rehab of Orphaned Wild Animals in Ontario
The majority of orphaned baby animals the Ottawa Carleton Wildlife Centre (OCWC) receives for care come in alone or in pairs. For successful socialization and reintroduction to the wild, they are put in normal family-size groups of four to five animals. They spend many weeks together or, in the case of some species, many months, and are released together at carefully selected foster volunteer sites that have all the natural features necessary for their survival.
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources regulations now demand that each animal be separated from its group and released back to within one kilometer from where it came.
OCWC will not be party to what we know are inhumane and irresponsible release regulations. Separating animals that have bonded as a unit and taking a single terrified animal back to almost-always inappropriate sites where they are not wanted and where there is no interim care, means animals will have no chance of survival.
If the Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre is to remain open to help wildlife, this regulation must be changed.
Please protect our wildlife and ensure the future of OCWC and other rehab centres in Ontario by reading and signing the Petition.
