Petition Tag - supermarket
250 Fencepiece Road, Hainault is a commercial site that has fallen into neglect with the closure of the car showroom on the site some years ago. Now Lidl has purchased the site, and they want to build a supermarket.
There is already a supermarket across the road, as well as other local convenience stores, and so another is unnecessary. There are also larger supermarkets within driving distance. This proposal would also involve a change of use, food waste disposal, large delivery lorries and traffic increase.
Cars speed down this road, and access from side roads is already difficult, especially in the mornings. This is a residential area, and a supermarket on this site is not in keeping with the neighbourhood.
2. No Superstores in Ulverston
Ulverston is one of the last market towns in England with a working local economy and an independent character. Now this is under threat from a proposed new superstore.
We want to stop this happening. See www.keepulverstonspecial.co.uk for more about our campaign.
3. Stop Unwanted Unnecessary Packaging
Do you find that when you go to the supermarkets and shops that packaging could be minimised?
Bananas in packed in plastic bags for instance, or Herbal tea bags individually wrapped, fruit wrapped in cardboard and hard plastic (special (posh?) packs of 2 or 4 fruits) Tetra packs!
And so many more unnecessary packages, I am just naming a few.
4. Keep Camelford's Fields Green
There are two proposals within Camelford for a Foodstore:
Plan A: The old Camelford Primary School Site on the Industrial Estate.
Plan B: Victoria Road Green Field Site (Bordered by Conservation Area) The North side of Victoria Road is within the Conservation area and a large proportion of Victoria Road contains listed buildings with significant historical relevance. The NCDC Camelford Conservation Area Appraisal reports that “Victoria Road displays considerable variety of form and finish, making it one of the most interesting residential streets in this part of Cornwall.”
We, the local residents, businesses and organisations of Camelford, oppose any development on the “Site B” Victoria Road green fields on the grounds of the increase of traffic congestion & emissions and light & noise pollution.

5. Save Moseley Village from Tesco threat
Moseley is a vibrant suburb of Birmingham, which has retained a village feel and is loved by many for its diversity, creativity and sense of community. For many years, local people have been fighting attempts to build a supermarket on the old Meteor Ford site on the edge of the village on the corner of Oxford Road and St. Mary’s Row.
This latest application includes a Tesco supermarket, 14 flats and a medical centre. The only vehicular access for the site will be from a residential road which houses a church, two childcare organisations and a school. The Save Moseley Village campaign has been set up to convince Birmingham City Council to refuse this application. Although the group welcomes the medical centre in this newest application, the site is too small for the entire planned development, creating many parking and traffic issues.
Many residents, organisations and traders are also worried about how the development of a supermarket on the edge of Moseley village will impact the village centre. No need for another supermarket has been established and there has been no independent assessment of how local shops will be affected by the new Tesco. There are real fears that the store, which expects a turnover three times greater than any existing supermarket in Moseley village, will force village shops to close.
Already there are three empty shops in the village and more can be expected if this development goes ahead.
This application will be decided by the planning committee at the Council House in Birmingham on Thursday 10 February at 11am. The planning officer is recommending approval. As a result, please tell anyone you know who wants to sign this petition to do so before 10pm Monday 7 February.
6. 100% Australian made and owned product at the supermarket
Foreign owned and made products have invaded the supermarket shelves taking away Aussie jobs.
7. Supermarkets: separate foreign owned companies from Australian owned companies on your shelves
Shopping can be a nightmare distinguishing foreign companies from Aussie companies.
8. Stop force feeding us halal!
Supermarkets and Food Producers in Europe - indeed, all over the world - are selling us halal slaughtered meat and other products without our knowledge.
We are demanding compulsory halal labelling to be introduced for all food producers and supermarkets in the EU and elsewhere.
9. Supermarket Food Contamination MUST Cease!
Supermarkets sell foods that we are meant to eat, digest and enjoy, though quite often they are tainted with the smell and taste of chemicals from products such as laundry powder, fabric softener, air fresheners and various other scented/fragranced chemical products. Also, Products such as unscented/Hypo-allergenic toilet paper is often placed next to these Scented/Fragranced products.
There is a reason why Hypo-Allergenic toilet paper is so named, it is for the personal use of people who have allergies or sensitivities to highly Scented/Fragranced products. The Chemical Scented/Fragranced products contain many toxic carcinogenic chemicals and should not be stored or sold in the same place as food that people must eat or next to toilet paper that is for personal use. Not everyone has access to or can afford to purchase Organic food.
The Health of the Customer should always come first not to forget the health of Supermarket staff. We shouldn’t have to battle our way through the Chemical Warfare that is the supermarket. It should be a safe place to visit where our health and food are protected in the best possible way.
It is time for a change in the way Supermarkets operate, either there must be a total Ban of chemical & scented/fragranced products being sold in the same store as food OR these chemical scented/fragranced products should be stored in separate rooms well away for our precious food. This is one step to less contamination and chemicals in our foods.
If you are also tired of or being made sick from the chemical and fragranced exposures in the supermarket here is your chance to make a difference in the way that Supermarkets operate by signing this petition.
This Petition will be forwarded onto various Supermarkets and the relevant Government Departments.
Cadbury Yowie, first launched in 1997, invented by Bryce Courtenay and Geoff Pike. Yowies were 27g Cadbury Dairy Milk moulded chocolate foiled characters which contained a capsule holding a token and a creature from the Australian Bush, explaining the rarity value, existence and habitat.
In mid 2005 the Yowie was removed from sales in Australia and New Zealand.
11. Support the Supermarket Code of Conduct
The code is aimed at the power imbalance between the supermarket chains and smaller growers. If unchecked, this process would lead to supermarkets having lower-quality fruit and vegetables and less product choice.
The Green Party wants this country to follow Britain and adopt a supermarket code of conduct.
12. Reject the Shopping Centre Proposal for Beachlands
This petition is to provide evidence of the overwhelming opposition to the proposal to rezone rural residential land to commercial land, and to then build a large scale supermarket and shopping/commercial centre.
This urban development is out of character with the rural coastal community of Beachlands/Maraetai, and is rejected by this community who already have adequate shopping facilities locally and large malls within 15 minutes drive. It will not improve the travel relationship between jobs and homes, will adversely impact on the already busy roads, and will destroy forever the beauty of this coastal community.
13. Stop the supermarket in Bishopbriggs Town Centre Redevelopment
Cleddens Residents Group was formed in November 2009 as a direct result of plans for redevelopment of the former Bishopbriggs High School site and the potential impact on our doorstep. We are residents who want to protect the area we live in and represent the views of the community in the area.
East Dunbartonshire council have passed outline planning permission for this development but we believe that most people in Bishopbriggs are unaware of the size of the supermarket and car park in the development.
Audit Scotland recently identified Bishopbriggs Cross as one out of twenty one pollution ‘hotspots’ for bad air quality in Scotland and this is before a new supermarket is to be built. The presence of a large supermarket in the town centre will seriously impact the ability of small, individual retailers to do business there, thus limiting our choice of where to shop. There is likely to be an increase in the number of empty retail units in our town centre. These will become targets for vandals, making the town centre less attractive and less safe for the residents.
The ' village feel' of Bishopbriggs Town Centre, already much reduced in recent years, is in danger of disappearing altogether.
ATC have shown in their dealings with Molson Coors that they are not qualified to make the best decisions on behalf of all Altonians in respect of town planning.
They have also shown that they are not prepared to listen to residents whose views do not coincide with their own.
They have allowed their own personal agendas to take priority over what is best for the town in the long-term,
'Hanham's Ground is two hectares of open green land used as a cricket field since 1793, adjacent to the River Allen, and close to the centre of the historic Dorset Minster Town of Wimborne. For several years, Waitrose have been trying to acquire the site in order to build a supermarket.

Despite strong local opposition demonstrated by several local petitions, East Dorset District Council perversely granted planning permission in February 2009 and construction on the site commenced during January 2010.
The land is adjacent to the River Allen, a Biodiversity Action Plan Habitat, and home to otters, rare white-clawed crayfish, water voles and other wildlife. There are grounds for believing that measures taken by the developer are inadequate to protect the water from harmful pollution. A significant proportion of the development site lies within a flood plain.
Hanham’s Ground lies within a Conservation Area and the developer has failed to demonstrate that the supermarket will harmonize with existing town centre buildings, in accordance with the district council’s own Planning Guidance. The change of use from an open green playing field to a supermarket and two-level car park, will irreversible affect the character of the town centre.
The site lies close to a busy road that is already congested at peak times. The provision of an additional 215 parking spaces is estimated to increase traffic by 2000 vehicles per day.
This Petition to the County Council must be submitted by 19 March 2010.
16. Retail Parking Space & Care Park Charges at 222 Alexandria
Residential owners were sold the 222 properties with the understanding given to them by CPM Realty that there were (50) visitor car spaces for the complex, plus additional retail car spaces.
It has now been brought to our attention that both car parks in question (visitor & retail) are one and the same. The residents were told that they would be able to use the retail car spaces / (50) guest spots but now SPAR has installed Care Park machines and will charge people to use these spaces.
17. Tesco - Bring back proper carrier bags
In recent months, presumably in response to rising costs and an effort to reduce plastic waste, Tesco has significantly reduced the thickness of their (free) carrier bags. How significantly, well enough to mean that when filled, they frequently split and dump the contents onto the ground. Not good when it's delicate, perishable foodstuffs.
As a consequence, many customers "double bag" their shopping, or use more bags with fewer items. Either immediately negate any savings or environmental benefits.
This petition is to raise pressure on Tesco to return to more practical carrier bags. It is not a call to introduce charging as some of their competitors have done. It gives Tesco an opportunity to draw a distinction against other retailers, by giving customers what they have previously had.
A & J Stephens Ltd has applied for planning permission for an as yet un-named superstore in Scone. The store floor area will be 3500sqm. with almost 300 parking spaces.
Details of the application can be found on

19. Save the Orangutans – demand sustainable palm oil is used by Supermarkets/Manufacturers!
Boycott Palm oil until we have answers!
I have been writing to Manufacturers and Supermarkets in the UK in the past 3 months who are known to use palm oil in their products and are in the top 100 for UK sales, and the news is not very positive and most of them have omitted to answer the questions I posed, particularly in providing me with a list of their products containing palm oil and whether it is sustainable or unsustainable palm oil that they use. Unsustainable palm oil plantations are the biggest threat and killer of the Orangutans in Borneo and Sumatra – these plantation Companies burn and tear down the Rainforests (the Orangutans habitat), kill and torture them. There is a supply of sustainable palm oil out there and it is not being used, so there is no excuse!
I now refuse to use ANY of their products, where possible and instead use products from Companies that do not use palm oil at all until there is proof of sustainable palm oil use. I do not want to be consuming this unhealthy saturated fat.
RSPO – is it just a cover?
The RSPO (Round table for Sustainable Palm oil) was set up in part by one of the biggest users of unsustainable palm oil in the World, in order to manage the promotion and changeover to sustainable palm oil for Companies. It appears to be doing good work, but I do feel that some of the members could be hiding behind their membership and saying that they are ‘doing their bit’ when they are actually, as a Company, doing very little. This does not mean everyone, but some of them, so do not take their membership as being the be all and end all – it is not and we need more proof.
It’s all about time
Time is actually running out for the Orangutan’s and many other animals, such as the Sumatran Tiger. If deforestation for the planting of unsustainable palm oil plantations is not stopped, then the Orangutan will be extinct within around 10 years!
Most Manufacturer’s, Supermarkets, and the RSPO itself do not have strict time scales that they commit to, to make the required changes (change to sustainable palm oil). This is no good – we want some promises and action before the Orangutan is extinct! We need them to tell us WHEN they are going to do something.
It is essentially all about greed……..
1. Our consumer greed for tasty and cheap products. (do we really need to eat biscuits and long life bread anyway?)
2. The Manufacturer’s greed for selling in bulk, their budget products, using palm oil as a cheap bulking agent.
3. The Palm oil Companies greed for selling quickly grown, cheaply produced and lucrative oil.
Listing Palm oil as ‘Vegetable oil’.
My other petition to the Government.....The law regarding ingredients listings, is an EU law, and allows manufacturer’s to list palm oil within the general term ‘vegetable oil’ making it difficult for us to avoid palm oil – please see my other petition for information on this very important subject and sign my other petition here: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-the-orangutan-demand-labelling-of-palm-oil.html
We have seen supermarket prices rocketing over the years. I believe this has been contributed somewhat by supermarkets paying these celebrities high wages.
Who is paying these wages - us the customer. Please support our petition and sign up!
21. Bring Publix to John Burruss Rd and Hwy 369 (Matt Hwy), Forsyth County, Georgia
Matt, Silver City and Coal Mountain areas of Forsyth County, Georgia have very few quality grocery store options within close proximity to our homes.
We are a growing community with many new residents and many more new residents to come. We are strategically located and growing at a faster than average rate.
We believe a Publix supermarket at the intersection of John Burruss Road and Hwy 369 (Matt Hwy) is needed in our community. This intersection is easily accessible and most centrally located to our homes and the new residential communities under development.
A Publix supermarket at this intersection will improve the quality of life for our residents.
In March 2002 the Irish government introduced a PlasTax levy on single-use
plastic carrier bags (including biodegradable ones.) The scheme has been an
extraordinary success, with consumption down by a staggering 95%. Prior
to the introduction of the levy annual carrier bag usage in Ireland stood at
1.2 billion.
On March 27, 2007 San Francisco's Board of Supervisors voted to become
the first U.S. city to ban plastic bags from large supermarkets to help
promote recycling. The city's Department of the Environment said San
Francisco uses 181 million plastic grocery bags annually. This ban applies to
shopping bags made from petroleum products and would save 450,000
gallons of oil a year and remove the need to send 1,400 tons of debris now
sent annually to landfills.
There are petitions being signed in for this cause in the United Kingdom and
Scottland as well.
The City of Los Angeles with it's heavy dependance on oil and gas should
make every attempt to lead the way in a greener future by cutting it's
dependance on oil and petroleum products.
23. Build Tesco in Torrington!
We should have a Tesco in Torrington for the following reasons:
-More business
-More jobs
-More money coming into the town
-Less distance to travel to shopping places, therefore less fuel costs
-More choice of food, clothes and other things
-Somewhere for the community to meet
24. Stop Animal Cruelty at Morrisons Supermarket
March 28, 2006
Morrisons supermarket selling the cruel and inhumane 'little nipper' mouse trap.
These traps can catch larger rodents and birds causing an agonising slow
death, even mice which they are designed to kill can become trapped by a leg or the tail leading to a slow painful death, rats and mice have been known to twist and break free leaving a severed leg. Humane release traps are a humane alternative.
The buyer for the home and leisure department blatently refuses to stop selling them. Death to any animal should not be made as easy as it is to buy a packet of sweets from a supermarket shelf.
Please help stop them making this product readily available as a spur of the moment off the shelf purchase.
25. Stop Woods Supermarket from obtaining a liquor lisence
We, the citizens of Cedar County would like to let the City's Board of Alderman know that we are against them voting for the only grocery store in this area, Woods Supermarkets, from obtaining a liquor license.
