1. Stop LA MetroLink Pollution
See LAMetrolinkpollution.com for more background information.
On Tuesday April 2, 2010, the Metrolink Board of Directors (BOD) will convene a meeting to vote on proposed rate hikes, ending of fare discounts, and significant elimination of service by cutting both weekday and weekend train routes.
We believe the riders of the Antelope Valley (AV) line have been unfairly burdened with critical service reduction relative to other lines based on available fare revenue and ridership data.
3. Save the 808 and 850 Metrolink Trains
Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA) will convene a public hearing at a Special Meeting of the Board of Directors on April 2, 2010 concerning the anticipated significant budget shortfall for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2010.
The hearing issues include proposals for,
(1) the establishment, modification, structuring or restructuring of fares and/or servicees/major service reduction to meet SCCRA's operating expenses,
(2) its purchase or lease of supplies, etc.
(3) meeting financial reserves and obtaining funds for capital projects.
The main issues this Petition is concerned with is the potential service changes/major service reductions include the discontinuation of service of trains 850, and curtailing of service south of Laguna for train 808. By discontinuing service of the 850 train, commuters must take earlier trains or ride Amtrak for this time period of 7:30 a.m. out of Oceanside.
4. Save the Manchester MetroLink
The labour government have once again shown their true colours, and despite having formally approved the Manchester Metrolink extension in 2000, have now suddenly cancelled all 3 planned lines. At the same time, approval was given to the £10billion light rail system in London - a city already many times better served with public transport - and costing some 20 times the amount required for the Metrolink.
At a time when Tony Blair is making big noises on how improving public transport is a key policy, and after millions of pounds in preparation, houses getting compulsory purchased and preparations all but completed - this is nothing short of disgusting. Manchester has been promised this vital extension by the same people who are still in power, and it is totally unacceptable to make this yet another broken labour pledge and another kick in the teeth for the people living outside London.
