1. Tougher Sentencing For Knife Crime

Too often we are hearing that Knife Crime is being used as an everyday occurrence, this can be that victims have been held up at Knife point during a robbery or a left scarred by being slashed or in the most heartbreaking of circumstances the victims loss their lives through being stabbed. Harsh as it sounds this is an everyday thing.

If the Government changed the sentencing on these individuals by making it tougher then we may save innocent victims in the future. How can you say a life sentence is 16years? It has to be put up to 25-30years before Parole for murder. It may deter others from thinking" it is ok to use a knife i will be free in 8years".

The families that loose loved ones through Knife crime live a life sentence as they never will get the chance to see hold or speak to their loved ones again, why should these people be allowed back on our streets.

2. Tackling knife crime & gang culture

Knife crime and gang culture is becoming one of the greatest concerns for the British public. Hardly a day goes by without somebody, and all too often a teenager, losing their life.

The public want action, and yet the Labour & Tory politicians seem to be at a complete loss for ideas about what to do. Indeed, perhaps their past policies have created this problem?

3. Damian's Law: Mandatory sentencing for knife-carriers

On the 14th July 2007 our youngest son Damian Peter Muir was brutally murdered in a random and unprovoked knife attack in Greenock, Scotland. His killer was a twice-convicted knife-carrier, yet had not served a prison sentence for either crime. He was free to kill our son.

At present under Scottish Criminal Law, there is no mandatory sentencing for persons found carrying knives or other dangerous weapons in public. What possible defence can an individual give for carrying a knife at night in towns and cities across the country? And yet this practice goes on, detected but often unpunished.

A change in the law would be a major step towards eradicating the knife-culture that prevails in our society. It will allow ordinary law-abiding citizens to start to reclaim the streets from the knife-wielding thug.
