2. Gael/Irish Day of Rememberance UN

Whereas the United Nations (UN) recognizes a day of each year as Holocaust Remembrance Day, a day to reflect upon the hardships of the holocaust, let the UN also recognize a “Gael/Irish Grievance Day.” The Gael/Irish Grievance Day stands in recognition of the dehumanization and genocide of Irish populace in the years 1845 through 1850. An internationally recognized day for Irish and Irish descendants living in other countries to memorialize the atrocities inflicted upon their ancestors. A day the UN promotes to educate the facts of the famine and the grievances of the Irish. This day honored as a testimonial and acknowledgement to the grievances of the Irish.

History: Between the years 1845 and 1850, known as the “Great Famine” or “Irish Potato Famine”, over one Million Irish died from the affects of famine (malnutrition, malnutrition disease or diseases associated with blighted potato). The cause of the famine was said to be blighted potatoes; however potatoes were not the only food source in Ireland. Additionally discrimination against the Irish population was condoned and incited by those that governed in Britain. British Government controlled Ireland in its entirety until the year 1921.

Facts known today of the “Great Famine” evident its infliction on the Irish population and not of natural causation:

1. The fungus, Phytophthora Infestans, the cause of the potato blight, only affected potatoes, tomatoes and plants in the potato family;
2. Phytophthora Infestans was cause of potato blight in England and Scotland in the year 1844 (one year before it struck Ireland) and was without famine or casualty;
3. Shipping records show, between 1845 and 1850:
• (a)Daily shipments of live stock, dairy, wheat, grains and other vegetables continued to leave Ireland bound for England in 1840 – 1850, the highest export years 1844 and 1845;
• (b) The total shipments leaving Ireland amounted to enough food to sustain approximately 18 Million people for the period of time, almost twice the number of people as the census recorded population of Ireland between years 1841 and 1851;
4. Food was left behind for British use;
5. Approximately 200,000 armed Constables and British Military escorted the food from mainland Ireland to the Irish docks for shipment to England.

Evidence of British government intent to reduce the Irish population exists with an 1846 publication by Charles Edward Trevelyan, Assistant Secretary to the Treasury in London 1840 – 1859. His position placed him in direct charge of the administration of Government relief to the victims of the Irish Famine. Charles Trevelyan cited the Famine as “a mechanism for reducing surplus population”. He added “the judgment of God sent the calamity to teach the Irish a lesson, that calamity must not be too much mitigated. The real evil with which we have to contend is not the physical evil of the Famine, but the moral evil of the selfish, perverse and turbulent character of the people”. Charles Edward Trevelyan’s ideals and discriminations of Irish were realized with the Laissez-Fair policy of Lord John Russell (British Prime Minister 1846 – 1852) during the famine.

The 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the crime of Genocide Article II defines genocide as the following:

Article II.
In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group as such:
• (a) Killing members of the group;
• (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
• (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
• (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
• (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

It is a reasonable articulation in accordance with the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the crime of Genocide Article II; those that governed in Britain were responsible for genocide of the Irish population of 1845 – 1850. The continued exportation of food was the cause of the famine and not the blighted potatoes. The removal of the food was deliberate (evidenced by the military escorts). The removal of food created conditions of life (the famine) that brought about the destruction in part (approximately 1,500,000 of 8,000,000) of the Irish (Article II (c). Additionally, the inhumane treatment towards the Irish population by British Government surmounts to violations under the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights Articles 2, 5, 22, 23 (1) and 25 (1).

Article III
The following acts shall be punishable:
• (a) Genocide;
• (b) Conspiracy to commit genocide;
• (c) Direct and public incitement to commit genocide;
• (d) Attempt to commit genocide;
• (e) Complicity in genocide.

The UN recognizes historic events that occurred throughout the world. It creates laws and a day’s of remembrance, promotes the education on facts, and promotes building museums and monuments. Among the recognized topics, the Holocaust is taught in schools, memorialized with monuments, museums in almost every major city and a day of recognition. The UN memorializes the Genocide of European-Jewish at the hands of Nazi-Germans in Europe.

In the 50 States of the USA, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to the Jewish Virtual Library, a Division of the American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise, there are approximately 6,453,880 Jews living in the USA and its territories, or approximately 2.2% of the U.S. population. According to http://www.jewfaq.org/populatn.htm, the world Jewish population is estimated between 13 – 14 Million. There are Holocaust Museums and Monuments in cities throughout the world. The events of the Holocaust are taught in schools. The Holocaust day of remembrance is recognized by the United Nations (UN) each year. A Holocaust survivors fund has been created.

In the 50 States of the United States of America (USA), Puerto Rico and the U.S. Territories, according to the 2009 U.S. Census American Community Survey, approximately 36,915,155 Americans Identify as Irish-American or Irish ancestry (12% of the U.S. population); Canada Census 2006 4,354,000 Identify as Irish-Canadian or Irish ancestry; Australia Census 2006 1,803,741 identify as Irish ancestry; England Census gives approximately 6,000,000 Irish descendants or Irish ancestry, and Irelands Central Statistics Office there are approximately 6,197,100 people living in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland; it also places approximately 70,000,000 Irish/Irish descendents living abroad.

Little has been done to recognize the conditions in Ireland that brought about its physical destruction in part (Article II (c)). There are a few monuments dedicated to the Irish famine in some countries. In the United States, particularly in the North East, Ohio and Illinois, parks and monuments have been named in honor of the famine. There is a monument in Canada, a few in cities throughout England and a few in Australia. Furthermore, there is a day in Ireland that is recognized as a famine memorial day.

Still no recognition of the true causes of the famine of 1845 – 1850 has been taught in schools nor a day honored for the genocide of Irish populace.

Additionally, in 1997 by Britain’s Prime Minister Tony Blair made a partial acknowledgement of the wrongs bestowed the Irish population in a letter about the Great Famine. He wrote “those who governed in London at the time failed their people by standing by while a crop failure turned into massive human tragedy. We must not forget such a dreadful event.”

Irish immigrants and descendents have a long standing history in the United States. During the time of the famine, those Irish that survived the trip to the United States on coffin ships, many enlisted in the Union Army and fought in the Civil War (ie NY 69th). These same Irish-American U.S. Civil War vets returned to Ireland during uprisings to fight for its independence.

4. Irish Government needs a severe pay cut

We, the Irish Citizens have voices, and it's high time we used them. We are calling for the Government to take considerable pay-cuts.

The Taoiseach and all other members should earn no more than 140,000 euro per year, and an expense account disallowed.

These are not outrageous demands. Other country leaders, such as the Prime Minister in the UK, and even the President of France earn a much smaller sum, per annum.

5. Change Irish and World Law: More jail time for abusers, more support for victims

In Ireland we as parents are legally not able to view our sex offenders register. We as parents have the right to protect our children.

In the last year at least under 10 pedophiles and rapists have been released into communitys all over Ireland and the residents are not informed.Why is it these animals are getting protected yet their victims are forgotten. Recently 1 rapist/ paedophile in particular was granted an injunction by the high courts to able him to hide his identity from residents.

I ASK WHY IS HE ABLE TO DO THIS AFTER WHAT HE'S DONE? we need to send the message IF YOU DO THESE CRIMES YOU LOSE YOUR RIGHT TO PRIVACY AND FREEDOM.

6. Apology from Taoiseach & Midland Health Board for Patrick & Kenneth Doyle

Brian Cowen, Bertie Ahern and indeed Fianna Fail promised the people of Ireland, and the survivors of abuse; the sun, the moon and the stars! Kenneth & Patrick Doyle don’t want the sun, the moon or the stars; they want JUSTICE!!!

The office of An Taoiseach and the Midlands Health Board fails to find it within their remit to apologise for the horrendous and grave inadequacies of the health boards, put in place to protect people like Kenneth & Patrick, and deems it entirely unnecessary to provide assistance in the needs of victims; healthcare, medical care, and medication treatments!

SIGN THE PETITION—DEMAND JUSTICE!

Kenneth & Patrick Doyle were subjected to years of abuse, torture, and a lost childhood at the hands of a brutal sadistic mother. They do not expect an apology from her, as she runs rampant, clinging to her rosary beads acting like a God-fearing Christian. They do expect, however, that the State, which was supposed to protect them from abuse has let them down terribly. The Midland Health Board did nothing to intervene and protect Patrick & Kenneth. Today, they both have issues from their past haunting them, physical and emotional damage has been done. But in very simplistic terms, a great relief and sense of healing could be given to Patrick & Kenneth, if only the Irish Government made a Public (unconditioned) Apology.

Neither Patrick or Kenneth want money from the State, money cannot right the wrongs done to them either by their mothers actions or the States inactions. The State must be made apologize for its grave error in the Doyle case. Taoiseach Bertie Ahern made promises to the victims of abuse, he did not honor his promises. Brian Cowen has went out of his way to further complicate justice for the Doyles, the people of Ireland have seen first hand how Brian Cowen complicates issues given the state of Ireland today.

We hope An Taoiseach Enda Kenny will honour his pledges to the people of Ireland especially victims of abuse.

In the budget for 2009 the funds for the cervical cancer vaccination for 12 year old girls have been removed. If parents are to pay for the vaccination it will cost in the region of 600 euro which many cannot afford.

There is a chance that Gaeltacht na nDéise, the only Gaeltacht in the South East of Ireland, will loose its Gaeltacht status in the future if this continues. That would be scandalous and shameful. Don't let this happen.

13. The Mark Courtney Out Petition

Mark Courtney has had a lot of abuse is the last couple of years, and recently there has been several threads started on Irish League forums, these including ClubCaptain and Irish League Supporters.

Titles like 'Worst Ref of the Month' have been among those noted. Recent matches including Irish Premier League game Portadown vs Glentoran and Irish Cup game, Glentoran vs Lisburn Distillery, have been games I have really seen him at his worst.

This is not just a Glentoran issue, it's the whole Irish League, who disapprove this this referee, and his standard, from Linfield to Limavady.

We want him out, now! His performance in the Irish League games is not acceptable, with him turning a blind eye to blatant Red cards, and giving cards where not appropriate, his standard is not acceptable, in the Amateur Section A.

15. Kevin Nolan for Ireland

To all Irish Football fans - help Kevin make up his mind.

Staunton still hoping to land Nolan
-------------------------------------------
From rte.ie - Wednesday, 09 August 2006 2:13

Steve Staunton is still hoping that Kevin Nolan will don the green Irish jersey. Republic of Ireland manager Steve Staunton is hoping to cut through a mountain of red tape in a bid to lure Kevin Nolan into the fold.

Staunton and Bolton captain Nolan have discussed on several occasions the prospect of the midfielder pulling on the green of Ireland.

Staunton is eager to recruit a player of Nolan's calibre, yet there remain obstacles, even though he qualifies to play for the Republic via the grandparents' ruling.

Nolan has previously played for England at under-21 level, albeit in a friendly, and featured in a competitive game for the under-18s.

There is a precedent as Everton's Tim Cahill played for Samoa at youth level, yet now represents Australia after lodging a successful appeal with FIFA.

Staunton is not giving up just yet as he said: 'There's a lot of issues surrounding this one.

'Once we cut through the red tape then we will know where we are, and I cannot say much more than that.'

16. Fix Throwing Conditions at Santry Stadium, Dublin

The current conditions in which Hammer and Discus throwers are expected to throw at Santry Stadium Dublin are unsafe for both the throws competitiors and the competitors on the track.

The "new" circle is the result of shody workmanship and it is highly unfair to ask athletes to throw in such dangrous conditions. Athletes have commented that they feel they are "signing a death warrent every time you went into it."

As well as it being unfair to ask athletes to throw from such conditions, it is even more unfair to ask them to throw in a manner that will be safe to track competitors. Throwers have complained about the difficulties in keeping control of the emplements they are throwing due to the conditions and unless this is rectified it WILL lead too an injury, either to a thrower or someone on the track.

The angle at which the cage is now set up also means that, on top of the highly dangrous and unpredictable conditions of the circle, it is highly possible for a 16lb hammer to land on the track. The AAI attempted to rectify this by abruptly changeing the direction of the sector line at 60m. This is something that a wayward hammer will not take into consideration when it is heading towards the track. And the AAI does not want to know what kind of damage a 16lb ball traveling at that speed can do to a track! Unless these conditions are taken into consideration, I can see the closeing of lanes due to damage as well as injury to athletes.

There has been outcry by members of the throwing community since the "new" circle was put down and various demands for the establishment of petitions. As well as being extremly angry at the conditions we are expected to perform in we do not wish to see clamp downs on our events due to somebody on the track being injured.

Irish Throwers have just as much a right to compete in safety as do the other athletes. It is the duty of the AAI to provide safe conditions for the athletes of this country to take part in. The conditions at Santry are safe for neither thrower nor athletes useing the track.

We respectfully ask that the circle be fixed or that the Irish Championships and other events due to be held at Santry be moved to a new location which provides proper and safe conditions for holding a competition.

17. Eating Disorder Awareness In Irish Schools

In Irish schools eating disorders are rampant and nothing is being done about it.

Children at primary school age are falling prey to the sick perversion of the media and society in genaral which projects an image of thinness on the verge of emaciation and associates it with success and beauty. Weight loss is always rewarded and plastic surgery is a regular occurance.

We live in an image obsessed culture and its gonna be the children of the future that'll pay for it. I myself am a 14 year old Irish student who suffers from an eating disorder and have many friends with eating disorders. A friend of mine was in fact bulimic when we were in 4th, 5th and 6th class in primary.

Eating Disorders are deadly awful diseases and awareness needs to be raised to help school children to understand and prevent them. Thank you for your time and please sign.

21. Cut ties with Northern Ireland now

Most people in the island of Britain want the north of Ireland to be reunited with the 26 counties.
This has been the case for over 30 years. The continuing governance over 6 Irish counties has cost the people of England, Scotland and Wales many lives, civilian and military, billions of pounds of taxes which would be better spent on education, health and welfare, and tarnished the name of these countries across the world.
We call for citizens of Britain to demand that 'northern Ireland' be reunited with the rest of Ireland, and allow the Irish people to follow their own path of self-determination.

We disown the activities of so-called 'loyalists' as being petty, backward and selfish. The activities of 'unionist' MPs throughout the 1980s in supporting the activities of the Thatcher government led to untold hardships in working class communities on this island.

We say end the 'link' now.
