1. Clean Up Polk Gulch

The Polk Gulch neighborhood has very few trash cans while large amounts of garbage remain on the streets and side walks. With many restaurants and bars along Polk Street and lots of tourists from Van Ness Street, lots of trash accumulates in the area.

Along Bush Street, there is not a single trash can in this neighborhood. By placing more garbage cans in the area, the tourists, inhabitants, businesses, children, and pets in the neighborhood would all benefit and the area would appear much cleaner.

4. Boycott Casinos - Support Local Businesses & Green Jobs

Dear Friend,

The leadership on Beacon Hill is attempting to open the door to predatory gambling in Massachusetts. They have refused to conduct a proper study of the pros and cons of their proposals. The House passed its casino bill without holding public hearings.

They claim casinos will create jobs. But the facts show that casinos are jobs killers and community-busters. They drain so much money from the local economy that they kill 1.5 jobs for every one they create. And they saddle us with social problems that cost taxpayers $3 dollars for every $1 dollar in tax revenue.

Casinos are not part of the solution. We can create more jobs by investing in the energy-efficient green economy of the future. Casino jobs create addictions. Green jobs give us reliable energy, clean up the air, improve nutrition, reduce chronic disease, health costs, and avert the threat of climate change.

Sign our petition to ask the Massachusetts legislature to say NO to casino gambling.

5. Beautification Project for the Intersection at 2nd Street and Helen

Recently within the past six months there has been increased occupancy and turn-over of residents of the mobile home park at Helen and 2nd Streets.

This has resulted in a dramatic increase in socializing and loitering on the perimeter of the property and on the street during the day and through the late evening hours and the consumption of alcohol and drugs by minors.

There has also been a dramatic increase in automobile and motorcycle traffic and speeding, as well as dumping of furniture and debris on the empty lot across 2nd street.

We propose a community beautification of the properties by requiring:

1) Property owner of the mobile home park to build a fence barrier around the perimeter of the park;

2) Property owner of the empty lot to provide continued clean up and waste removal as required by the Clean Tahoe Program;

3) Neighborhood residents to provide basic landscaping along the perimeter of both properties including planting of trees, shrubs and flowers, and

4) City of Lake Tahoe to install speed bumps on Helen Avenue and 2nd Street.

9. Clean Up JCP

As of December 19 we associates at JCPenney are making a plea due to inequity in task demands with direct relation to the most senior associate 0856 - referred to, heron, as Hanan.

We, additionally, are citing her inappropriate conduct, and offensive behaviors, as reason for our plea to remove or transfer her from our department.

The tasks referred to above include refusal to maintain a clean and organized stockroom, while utilizing the room, in addition to not maintaining display organization standards on the sales floor, while selling. Disorganization occurs only due to customers removal of shoes and their understandable ineptness at replacing them.

This task load is most often placed upon the other employees (ourselves), often of later shifts. The rule at JCP is for each associate to clean up after his or her own customers', replace the boxes to their specific locations in the back room, and to restore neatness to ALL displays used in the associates own shift--hence, the reason for establishing commission incentives for shoe sales!

Furthermore, Hanan has made it impossible to discuss the issues with her directly. Interpersonal behaviors demonstrated by her have been of extreme negative value to ourselves and Family Shoes at JCPenney. These negative behaviors have included rebukes, insults, use of insensitive religious references, manipulation of new and longstanding associates and their commissions. These are considered considerably egregious acts by all fair standards.

Our repeated, verbally presented, requests to management and other supervisors have gone unheard.

10. School Cleanliness

The purpose of this petition is because of the cleanliness of our school going down this year. There has been No Paper Towels and Soap in the restrooms. There has been trash in the hallways in piles. The restrooms have a real bad odor coming from them as soon as you walk down the hall.

The hallway floors look to have not been mopped since the beginning of the school year. There are no cleaning supplies for the janitors to keep the school clean.

11. Road Improvement on C.R. 6812

August 8, 2006

We would like to request that our road at C.R. 6812 (Peanut Valley) be repaved.

I Mary S. Tovar have been a resident here since 1994 and have had the potholes repaired on the surface.

The potholes have caused so much damage that to drive comfortably, we have to drive on the side of the road.

There are many new residents that have moved to the area and we are all tax payers. We feel that our road should be improved and look as good and clean as the roads of the surrounding neighbors.

13. Petition for clean air: Laredo District 3

March 25, 2006

On or about the year 2004, The City of Laredo purchased certain property located within the confines of the City of Laredo District 3.

Specifically, the property, purchased from the Slaughter family, and commonly referred to as the "Slaughter Farm or Ranch" takes up a number of acres bordering Chacon Street to the North and Stone Street to its East.(may also include other streets)

During the negotiations of the City's purchase of the land, the Citizens of District 3 understood that the property would serve as a recreation area, including park and sports facilites.

However, since the City has taken control of this land, they have stripped the land of all grass, shrubs and other protectants from the southeast winds coming into District 3. As a result, the citizens of District 3 have faced a nuisance that is directly affecting their neighborhood living. For instance, the Citizens of District 3 have:

-constant dust and dirt being blown and penetrated into their homes, automobiles and other personal belongings;

-been unable to enjoy numerous outdoor activities as they did in the past; and more importantly,

-been forced to breath the dust and dirt that may contain contaminated and hazardous particles, including pesticides and fertilizers from the many years the land was farmed.

The air being breathed by the Citizens of District 3 is not clean and they demand that remedial measures be taken immediately.

14. Lead free housing for our children

Jan 23, 2006

In march 2005 I rented a home from Dayne Davis Realitor unaware of the serious consequences that would fall upon my one yr old son.

From the fist day we moved in my baby seemed to have changed mentally the things he once did like walking and talking all came to a stop and little by little he seem to get sicker often with high fevers of 106 to viral infections and having to go to the doctor at leat twice a month.

So they decided to give him a lead test and it was my worst fear his levels was at 10. I was contacted by the health dept (Kimberly Noble) to have the home cleaned of lead and was told to contact the landlord. I did and to my despise he gave me a seven day notice and he just recieved my rent money two days prior.

I had just moved in i got the results in June and was informed by the doctor and health dept it was a matter he has to clean. (He refused.) So i got a lawyer (Brian Smith) which informed me of my rights and told me he just can't throw me out because my baby was sick. Mr. Smith also informed my landlord Dayne Davis whom agreed to clean the house if i would not sue him for medical and emotional expenses especially since i was Eight months pregnant at the time. So he had me to leave my home for seven days assuring me the home would be cleaned up and so i did. When i returned home and after the court proceding was stopped i realized that the inside of the home wasent done only the front porch.

I called Dayne Davis and informed him of the situation because paint chips was still in the home he told me they hepa vac the home and it was safe that all i would need to do is bleach the windows and everything would be fine. so i did. The paint started to chip again and i notice my baby was getting sicker, around this time he took me to court to file for eviction two months later in Sept becuase of the funds i wouldnt give him until the home was cleaned which was just for june 2005 after he agreed with my lawyer not to take legal action especially since he wouldnt take my funds anyways. So i payed him and to my surprise my son is getting more violent, angry and now he cant talk anymore, hes also throws horrible temper tantrums and he cant even focus. So i was advised by his family doctor Dr. Saeed that his levels had increased to 15 and to send him to an A.D.H.A specialist Dr. Chheda, whom diagnosed my son with A.D.H.A Behavior conduct disorder, and refers him to a speech, and behavior therapist as well as phychrioist. Hes now deemed mentally retarded and the cause was Lead Poising now he is prescribed medicine to help him focus and calm down. I informed Dayne Davis that i was notified by the health dept for the second time and salem houseing comission(which cleans lead in homes) and they agreed to clean the home with his signature. He refused and torn up my paper then threated me by calling the police all over him signing the paper so i can have a healthY safe living environment.Dayne Davis even went so far to tell me "I DISLIKE YOU PEOPLE" you people he has some neverve, my son could have died over his lack of sincerity and unsafe house. That he was aware unsafe, he lied just to recieve my funds and now my sons life is worth nothing, and i need help.

He also told me " I WANT YOU TO MOVE YOU CANT PROVE THERE IS LEAD IN THE HOUSE IF I EVICT YOU ITS YOUR WORD AGAINST MINE AND I CAN MOVE ANYOTHER FAMILY IN". Please someone whoever has a ear let him hear and whoever has a heart let it speak the truth and help me for my sons sake. My son is too young to understand why hes sick and why he dosent deserve to live in a safe environment.

We have a voice and needs it to be heard, please stop him Dayne Davis before he rents a home to another child this time the child might not be as lucky as mine he/she might not make it. My newborn is only 4 mos and has already been sick often but shes too young to be tested, will someone please help me.

17. Cleaner more ozone friendly energy sources

I know that it is very much need that we start taking more action to help save our ozone layer if we dont do something about this we will have global warming on our hands and everyone will be dead. I propose that we start using more ozone friendly resourses as power instead of fossil fuel. These resourses could include wind power, water power, clean electric power but it sould not be limited to these three. I really think we NEED to do this because if we dont then global warming will kill us all.

I want to live to see many more days without having to worry about this and i think that we sould really start thinking about the big picture: Can we go on doing what we are doing and not have this happen in the possible near future. I hope you take this as seriously as I do because I want are children to have a future.

19. Stop Alaska Salmon Stream Pollution!

Overview: Governor Murkowski and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) have proposed new rules to increase pollution in Alaska's wild salmon streams. Currently, state law rightly prohibits "mixing zones" in salmon spawning areas. The Governor's proposal will rollback these safeguards, and allow mining, sewage, oil and gas and other pollution to be dumped into our fish streams. The deadline for comments is September 10, 2004.

The Problem: A "mixing zone" is an area in a waterbody where pollution levels exceed water quality standards designed to protect people and fish. Normally, a pollution discharge must meet water quality standards at the end of the discharge pipe. When the discharge is too polluted to meet such standards, regulators often employ mixing zones - which are simply loopholes that allow compliance to be measured downstream, after the polluted discharge has dispersed in the receiving water. Mixing zones adopt the long-discounted notion that dilution is the solution to pollution, and in practice, they create sacrifice zones where water and habitat quality fail to meet the fish protection goals of the Clean Water Act.

The Solution: Speak Out! Let the Governor and ADEC know you oppose increased pollution in Alaska's renowned salmon streams (see talking points below):

TALKING POINTS

MIXING ZONES & SALMON STREAMS

· Alaska Law Rightly Prohibits Mixing Zones in Salmon Streams. Alaska law currently prohibits mixing zones in salmon streams because mixing zones allow pollution at levels above state standards designed to protect fish. The state says it is simply conducting "housekeeping" to make permit decisions easier for industry and agencies; the fact is that the new rule will allow toxic pollution discharges in Alaska salmon streams where none occur now. Polluting industries have lobbied for years for this loophole, and now, the Murkowski Administration is set to reward them with yet another way to foist pollution treatment costs onto everyday Alaskans.

· Polluting Salmon Streams Will Hurt Fish Marketing Efforts. In response to the global glut of farmed salmon, the Alaska salmon industry is successfully branding and marketing wild, fresh and clean Alaska salmon to consumers who demand quality seafood. If the Administration adopts the proposed rules, farmed fish vendors will have a powerful to undermine Alaska salmon sales. Furthermore, salmon marketing and certification entities - such as the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, Kenai Wild, Copper River Red Salmon and the Marine Stewardship Council - may be forced to amend their salmon quality specifications and grades to reflect fish taken from waters with heightened pollution from mixing zones.

· The Murkowski Administration Is Gutting Fish Habitat Protections. The Murkowski Administration has embraced an extreme anti-salmon agenda since taking office. At the start of his term, the Governor effectively silenced the biologists in the Alaska Department of Fish & Game's Habitat Division, by moving them to the resource development agency - the Department of Natural Resources. Soon after, he and his supporters gutted the primary state law which protects salmon habitat in coastal watersheds - the Alaska Coastal Management Program - by effectively removing citizens and local governments from decisions affecting coastal salmon habitat. The Murkowski Administration has also pressed hard to allow pesticide and herbicide spraying around salmon streams. Together, these sweeping changes herald disturbing rollbacks to common sense protections for our wild salmon and the people and communities they support.

· More Pollution Threatens Fisheries Health & Consumer Safety. The State of Alaska does not regularly sample and test salmon for toxic pollution. Research from the Exxon Valdex oil spills has proved that low levels of hydrocarbons - as low as one part per billion - can harm fish eggs and smolt. Furthermore, many Native and subsistence consumers eat large quantities of salmon, and toxins in the fish can bioaccumulate in human fat cells, leading to health concerns (especially for vulnerable populations, such as pregnant women and children). As a result, the current proposal to allow more pollution in salmon streams adopts a "head in the sand" approach to fisheries health and consumer safety.

· The Comment Period Falls During Prime Fishing Season. The Murkowski Administration chose to wait until the middle of the fishing and subsistence seasons to open a 45 day comment period - when those people who would be most affected by the proposed rule are unavailable. As a result, the comment period should be extended until October 31, to allow stakeholders a realistic opportunity to weigh-in on this important proposal.

20. Coal Harbour Petition for Off Leash Dog Park

We are petitioning the City of Vancouver and the Parks Board for an off-leash park in Harbour Green Park (Coal Harbour). In the past three years, more than 15 residential towers have been constructed and occupied in this downtown core. Most of these buildings allow for dogs.

The official charter of the parks board was to have an off-leash area for every community within six blocks of their residence. The nearest one to Coal Harbour is more than seven plus blocks away and currently under review to revoke the off-leash privilege.

However, there has been no city planning or look into shared spaces for an official dog park in Coal Harbour with off leash areas.

We are petitioning for an all-year round, full time off-leash dog area in Harbour Green Park. We would like the area clearly marked as an "Off Leash Dog Park." We do not want the park near any children's park/play areas.

We would like the park area to be clearly signed and defined as a dog-friendly area. The space needs to be adequate to throw balls for the dogs, have a game of chase/tug.

The area currently has many garbage cans for waste and is central to all the new buildings that have been recently occupied. It is a fabulous dog area as it is not surrounded by streets/cars and traffic. It is located on the sea wall. For more than eight months out of the year, the park is empty - only used by die-hard dog owners who are out rain or shine.

Shared space and use of our parks is one of the most beautiful things about Vancouver. We appreciate that some people have fears of dogs (large or small) or worry about their children (or their toys) when dogs are around and by creating a separate and clearly marked space we can ally those concerns.

In many areas across the country, cities like Calgary and Toronto have defined processes and successful off-leash park areas for their dog population. Further, examples in California through to Philadelphia, PA demonstrate that when a group of concerned and responsible dog owners work for a leash free area, additional benefits result for both community and dog owners:
-increased adherence to dog licensing
-increased improvement in picking up after dogs
-increased sense of community, where people meet their neighbours
-happy dogs who have 'free' time to run and play

"...The daily dog walk gives people a chance to exercise, to be out in nature, to meet with others and to create a community. Dog walkers find friends at off-leash parks; they also monitor each other and spread the word about courtesy, clean-up and control. A strong argument in favour of creating off-leash spaces is that availability of legal off-leash areas cuts down on illegal off-leash use, making dog-averse people more comfortable in public spaces because there is less chance of encountering off-leash dogs in unauthorized places." www.caldog.org

General Rules We Propose for the Off-Leash Space:
-Dog feces must be cleaned up
-Dogs must be leashed to and from the off-leash area
-Dogs need to be under voice or hand-signal control
-Dogs showing signs of aggression must be leashed or, removed from the park
-People should carry a leash at all times
-Dogs must be licensed
-Dogs should not interfere with wildlife
-Holes dug by dogs must be filled
-Barking must be monitored and kept to a minimum
-Female dogs in heat are prohibited
-Young children must be closely supervised and accompanied by an adult
-Owners will assume responsibility for their dogs and their actions.

This petition is not only for a dog park but also a commitment of the dog owners to create a clean, safe and fun environment within the determined space.

Please help us create a dedicated space that allows our dogs to have a place to run and enjoy their beautiful city.

If you would like to be more directly involved in our efforts, you can email jw0205@hotmail.com. We can update you on our next steps and see how you may be able to help out!

26. Help stop OUR OWN DESTRUCTION - time to switch to clean renewable forms of energy

How many disasters and destruction do we need more to finally learn?

A ruptured tanker called the Prestige, carrying 77,000 tons of fuel oil, almost twice what the Exxon Valdez spilled, sank off the coast of Spain on 19th November 2002. The full impact has yet to be seen, but it is clear that this is already a major environmental disaster. This is a ticking time bomb!

After dozens of spills like these averaging more than one oil spill every two weeks during the 1990s), what will it take for us to reduce our dependence on oil?

As long as we continue to rely on oil for energy there will be more devastating oil spills and global warming will become catastrophic. The only solution is to switch to clean renewable forms of energy like wind power, solar power and the clean green fuels like hydrogen.

We demand our politicians to act NOW, enough is enough. When our beautiful planet will be destroyed it will be too late to cry, regret and say if we only had...

The latest report from the International Panel on Climate Change IPCC) says that hundreds of technologies are already available, at very low cost, to reduce climate damaging emissions and that government policies need to remove the barriers to these technologies. Implementing these solutions will not require humans to make sacrifices or otherwise impede their quality of life. Instead, they will enable people to usher in a new era of energy, one that will bring economic growth, new jobs, technological innovation and, most importantly environmental protection. However, for green solutions to global warming to find a foothold in the market, governments and corporations need to lead the shift away from polluting technology. At present, fossil fuel industries are provided with billions of dollars in subsidies so that dirty energy stays cheap. Polluting industries are allowed to pollute for free, while clean technologies remain under-funded. Developing nations, which have the fastest growing energy needs, are locked into old fashioned fossil fuel technologies by Export Credit Agencies. The time has come for humans to wean themselves off fossil fuels and other climate damaging technologies. Oil companies must stop exploring for more fossil fuels that the world cannot afford to burn. Governments need to subsidise renewable energy and force polluters to pay.

Green technology is ready to take over Wind power is already a significant source of energy in many parts of the world. It can supply 10 percent of the world's electricity within two decades. Solar power has been growing in a global capacity by 33 percent annually. Greenpeace and industry research shows that with some government support, the solar industry could supply electricity to over 2 billion people globally in the next 20 years. By 2040 solar photovoltaics could supply nearly 25 percent of global electricity demand. A report conducted by global financial analysts KPMG shows that solar power would become cost competitive with traditional fossil fuels if the production of photovoltaic panels was increased to 500 megawatts a year. A renewable power plant in Asia could have the same costs and provide the same jobs as a coal fired plant, but with significant environmental advantages. Greenfreeze refrigeration technology, which is safe for the climate and the ozone layer, has spread around the world. It is an ideal solution for developing countries where cost and efficiency are particularly important.

An inspection at that location revealed a substantial number of junk (*Section 2C of Ordinance #9 of 1992 defines junk as any discarded material or article including scrap metal, scrapped, abandoned or junked motor vehicles, etc.), abandoned (*Section 2D of Ordinance #9 of 1992 defines abandoned as any item resting for 96 hours or more and which is inoperable, without current registration plates, certificate or inspection or in such a condition as to be unusable)and discarded (*Section 2E of Ordinance #9 of 1992 defines discarded as any item resting for 96 hours or more with no known or apparent owner) vehicles were found on the property.

The property owner was also found in violation of Section 3 of Ordinance #9 of 1992 for accumulating or storing junked, abandoned or discarded vehicles, debris, etc. At the present, the property has remained unchanged. Currently, there are junked cars sinking into the ground that are being used to store more junked parts. In addition, the roof of the garages dislodges during wind, used tires are accumulating and scrap metal is abundant. 30. Stop the Pollution: 40% of U.S. Waterways are too polluted to swim in

The historic Clean Water Act has been in place nearly 30 years and yet 40% of the nation's waterways are too polluted for Americans to use for swimming or fishing.

A report from Environmental Working Group showed that 42% of state inspections at facilities that had already been found to be in breach of the Clean Water Act in the past were "Drive By" where inspectors were not required to leave get out of their car… and 280 facilities run by known polluters were not inspected at all!

In some cases the fines for breaching the Act are so small that it is cheaper for polluters to pay the fine and keep polluting than to take action to stop the pollution.

The Clean Water Act is in place to improve the waterways of America. If it is not enforced properly water quality will not improve.
