2. Give Dog Owners a Fine if they don't put their dogs on a leash in Massachusetts

I am allergic to dogs, and have seen many in public parks where there are lots of signs telling dog owners kindly to have their dogs on leashes. However, I have seen many dogs NOT on leashes and this makes me very upset to see that the owners are not paying attention to the signs.

I have been on tons of chases where an eager dog (not on a leash) runs after me. Alot of owners when I tell them I am allergic to dogs they say their dogs are hypoallergenic, and they can be to some people, but not to me. I am allergic to all kinds of dogs, "hypoallergenic" or not. These dogs don't know better than to chase me, but their owners do.

The owners need to be more considerate to people who are allergic to dogs like me and keep their dogs on leashes.

3. Defend Arbury Court Library

Arbury Court Library, in Cambridge, is one of 25 community libraries across Cambridgeshire that are under threat from Cambridgeshire County Council's Library Service Review. Under the plans, the facility could be closed or become a volunteer-run service.

The library currently serves thousands of city residents, mainly in the Arbury, King's Hedges and Chesterton wards, and we believe any reduction in this vital service would be a huge loss to these communities.

Further details on the plans are available at http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk

4. No! To Cambridge MA Backyard Fowl - Nix The Chicks!

This petition relates to the keeping of backyard ducks, chickens and any other type of fowl in Cambridge, MA. It's authors wish to show the city that there is widespread opposition to residents, tenants and homeowners raising or keeping fowl on residential property within Cambridge city limits whether for food or as pets.

We are Cambridge voters, homeowners, residents, tenants and sympathizers who wish to show the city and the members of the city council who are currently trying to enact measures that will ultimately change zoning and ordinances to permit fowl to be housed and raised within Cambridge city limits that we are steadfast in our opposition against fowl (chickens, ducks, turkeys etc.) being housed or raised on residential property in this densely populated urban setting which is Cambridge, MA for numerous and individual reasons not limited to health, odor, property and nuisance issues.

The facts are, there has been no public vote or poll of homeowners and residents by the city as to whether fowl being housed and raised in Cambridge is acceptable to the majority of the over 100,000 residents who live here.

The voice of the public at large was never heard in regards to housing or raising fowl on residential properties within Cambridge city limits. Instead, members of the city council are forging ahead with their personal agendas to try and force upon city residents the acceptance of fowl on residential properties without having first determined or taken into consideration the number of homeowners and residents who are not in favor of their actions. There has been no media coverage, announcements or polls by the City of Cambridge asking the over 100,000 residents and homeowners how they feel regarding this issue.

In light of these facts, we are using this format and others to tell the city and it's council members that there are many of us who are NOT in favor of fowl being housed or raised on residential peoperty within our city limits and we do not want city ordinances or zoning changed to allow fowl on residential property. We the Cambridge voters, homeowners and residents stand firm on this issue.

Help up keep our city fowl free. Sign the petition! Send this petition site to your neighbors and friends. Display a "NIX THE CHICKS" sign in your yard or window. Gather the signatures of your neighbors and friends in opposition to fowl housed or raised on residential properties and send to the author.

5. Cambridge Backyard Ducks and Chickens

This petition relates to the keeping of backyard ducks and chickens in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Its authors wish to show the city there is broad support for residents’ right to responsibly keep a reasonable number of birds on their property.

Some background on the birds: The ducks are named Potassium, Ferdinand, and Penelope, and the chickens are Henrietta and Francis. The breeds—Cayuga ducks and Wyandotte chickens—were specifically chosen because they are quiet and docile. During the day, they enjoy foraging for food in the yard; any slugs, bugs, or mice that they catch supplements their diet of vegetarian pellets. At night they sleep in a small wooden coop about the size of a refridgerator box. Each bird has a distinctive, lovable personality and is cared for a great deal. They are so healthy they’re still laying eggs in the middle of winter!

In the coming weeks we will be meeting with the city and our neighbors to ensure that we’re not in violation of the Cambridge Zoning Ordinances. Decisions made regarding our case may affect everyone who currently keeps or wants to keep chickens or ducks in Cambridge. We hope this petition will signal to the Cambridge City Council that we, the birds’ owners, are not alone in finding this issue important, and that these birds can be kept without negatively impacting the surrounding neighborhood.

6. Permanent Ice rink for Cambridge

Thousands of people watched Torvill and Dean skate to victory - I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see British skaters go for gold again. For the past few years Cambridge has had an ice rink at Christmas.

These have been huge successes but still there isn't a permanent rink. It would profit the general public and people like me who have to travel 45 mins - 1 hour to get to the nearest ice rink. Skating is an intense calorie burning, beautiful and fun sport, and for England to progress and become a renowned skating country we need many more rinks - so please help me to put England on the map as a skating sensation country

Thank you for reading my petition.

For more information on how you cansupport the mption of an ice rink please go to this website: http://www.cambridgeicentre.org.uk With the help of our petition they hope to convince the council to build an ice rink!

7. 800 Years With No Sports Centre: Time for Change

With dozens of University Sports clubs and thousands of students taking part in College and recreational sport, Cambridge has a vibrant and diverse sporting community. Sport is an integral part of College and University life, and the success of our teams is testament to the hard work and commitment of students and their coaches.

However, the facilities and support for student sport in Cambridge are woefully inadequate. If the University wants to think of itself as a world-class institution and continue to attract the best students, it must tackle the issue and build a new sports centre.

After 36 years of inaction, CUSU, supported by the Hawks Club and the Ospreys, are leading a campaign to force the University to recognise the needs of its students and bring our facilities up to the standard seen at other top Universities. Please sign the petition and get involved!

8. Reduce speed limit on Cambridge Road, Great Shelford

The current speed limit on Cambridge Road, Great Shelford, Cambridgeshire (A1307) is 40MPH. This road is in a residential area which has street lights and cycle lanes. The speed limit should be reduced to 30MPH.

Cars often drive down this road far in excess of 40MPH and it would not be a surprise if somebody is killed cycling or crossing this road.

9. Save The Garment District!

The Garment District on 200 Broadway is a thrift store in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Even though the building is very old, it has still become a localwide landmark for many years.

The store is a very well-known place to go for vintage clothing, Halloween costumes and other great finds.

If luxury apartments sprout up where the Garment District stands, then Cambridge will lose part of what makes this a great city: History.

By making the building a historical landmark, the store will continue to strive and keep running throughtout our present generation and our future generation to come.
