The X28, which serves the Southwest Brooklyn communities of Bath Beach, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights, Sea Gate and Coney Island during the week, lost its weekend service as part of massive service cuts enacted by the MTA in 2010.

This petition serves to restore this eliminated service.

Dear Governor Cuomo & MTA Chairman/CEO Thomas Prendergast:

We are demanding that weekend service on the X28 express bus line be restored. Weekend service on the X28, which was eliminated in 2010, once afforded residents, especially students, senior citizens, the handicapped and other commuters an essential service.

The X28 weekend service served the communities of Bath Beach, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights, Sea Gate and Coney Island, communities that already have long commutes with limited transit options in many areas.

While Bay Ridge residents and those commuting to or from the area have received service restorations to the X27 on the weekends, those who live in or travel to or from the aforementioned communities (east of Bay Ridge) do not have the same weekend service on the X28 and have to travel a long distance in many cases to reach the express bus.

Furthermore, it is especially inconvenient for senior citizens in those communities who have difficulty climbing the stairs to reach the elevated subway to get into Manhattan.

We are frustrated with the MTA's lack of concern for Southwest Brooklyn residents and for those who commute to or from the area and relied upon the X28 weekend service. These service cuts are completely unjust to the people of the community, as well as other X28 weekend commuters. As taxpaying citizens, we expect that the services due to us be re-established to meet our needs.

We respectfully petition that you fully restore weekend service on the X28 - a needed and vital service in the community.
