In a move which has shocked politicians and political commentators around the globe, the UN's World Tourism Organisation has appointed Robert Magabe to be one of its new "tourism ambassadors".
Magabe is currently banned from travel within the EU and most of the United States, and is considered by many to be a mass-murderer. Our Australian tax dollars support the UN and its World Tourism Organisation.
Such support should cease immediately, and should not be renewed until this ludicrous and highly distasteful situation has been rectified.
We the undersigned,
noting: that the United Nation's World Tourism Organisation has formally recognised Robert Mugabe as a "leader for tourism" and a recognised ambassador for its programmes;
noting: that the United Nations is funded by donations from the governments of its signatories, including Australia;
and believing: that the hard earned money of Australian tax payers should not be used to advance the international standing of a man who is widely considered to be a mass-murderer and war criminal;
Call upon the Minister for the Foreign Affairs to immediately withdraw all and any Australian financial support for the United Nation's World Tourism Organisation in protest at such an appointment, and to refuse all further support for the aforesaid Organisation until such time as it shall cease to associate itself with Magabe and his regime.
