Essex County plans are on the way to place 2 professional football / soccer field with astro turf, and most likely fences and perhaps flood lights in Watsessing Park, Bloomfield, NJ. Already there are too many athletic structures in the park.

This is an inventory of park structures:

2 basket ball courts with flood lighting, 3 line drawn soccer / foot ball fields, 4 baseball fields, 2 cricket fields, 1 fenced in lawn bowling facilities with flood lighting, 1 running track.

Other (softer) structures in the park include:
1 dog park, 3 fenced in children playgrounds, 1 senior center, 1 maintenance building, 1 restroom facility next to one of the basketball courts.

Our park has no parking facilitees to facilitate gatherings of large groups, and the county has been unable to provide a police presence at the times when such gatherings are taking place.

We believe our county parks are designed to provide Green Space as areas of peace and serenity in order to provide a counterbalance to the ever increasing residential and commercial land developments in our area.

We stand for the preservation of our parks as parks, and oppose the selling out of our green spaces to initiatives that turn them into professional sports arenas.

We specifically oppose the planned installation of the 2 professional soccer fields. Please sign our petition.
