#Media Issues
Target:
Sheridan Broadcasting
Region:
United States of America

According to the WAMO Web site, WAMO began in Homestead in 1948 as WHD. The call letters were changed in 1956 to WAMO to represent the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio rivers. WAMO-FM went on the air in 1960.

Sheridan Broadcasting, which purchased WAMO in 1973, acquired the assets of the Mutual Black Network six years later to become the first completely black-owned news network in the nation.

WAMO-FM is an integral part of the urban community. With programs to promote social awareness such as Stop the Violence, and WAMO cares this station does much more for our community than just supply us with our daily soundtrack. WAMO is OUR VOICE and we can not allow it to be muzzled. Without WAMO on the radio waves how will the urban community be heard?

We the undersigned are calling upon the FCC to deny the sale of WAMO/WPGR.
