For at least 60 years, Eisenhower warned us about this problem, big money and big industry have been running this country. Eisenhower said we shouldn't worry about the Russians, we should worry about the" Arms Manufacturers".
A good example of this is the oil industry. Years ago they competed with each other, today they work as a group to push profits up. If you listen to their adds on TV, you really don't have a choice but to listen, they are no longer competing for your business they are lobbying for what they want from the government.
Notice that unlike the pharmaceutical companies that have to explain every bad thing that happened while people were taking their drug, the oil industry ignores all the messes they have made while cutting corners to raise profits. They also have the gall to ask for drilling rights without even mentioning that prices would go down if those rights were granted.
Everyone seems to agree that the government is run by the special interest groups, yet how do we the people take back control of the government. Right now the government and the special interests have succeeded in getting Americans fighting among themselves.
The trouble is no matter how many times we shift control from one party to the other, nothing changes. So how do we get the government to work for us instead of the special interests. We could march on Washington and demand that the special interest lobbys leave but I doubt they would.
So here's the petition, put your petty differences aside, stop looking at candidates through the colored glasses of party affiliation. Let's judge the government as a whole. Let's take away the excuse that the other party is at fault and judge the performance of the government as a whole. How many of us are impressed with the last 4 years. When we saw 8 senators go behind closed doors to work out serious crises, were we impressed with the results.
If we're not happy, here's what we do, we simply vote against all the incumbents. In other words we don't care how much money the special interests put into your campaign, if you don't work together to solve problems, your out. I hope you agree that the performance of our government should have eliminated the problem of lifetime politicians a long time ago.
