Due to the commercial strategy of the producers, cheap videocameras lack functions that are instead very useful to introduce students to the use of audio-visual languages.

As media educators and teachers committed to using video in a school environment, we suggest the major companies build and sell a videocamera especially dedicated to schools.
In order to let students and teachers learn to control the main parameters of audiovisual takes it must have for a LOW PRICE some characteristics that are generally sold as "professional".
IT OUGHT HAVE:
mike input ( possibly balanced )
headphones output
analog video output
two separate wheels for iris and focus ( push for auto/manual )
smooth and intuitive ( front/back, not left/right !) zoom lever
macrozoom 10x
tally light
still shoot
IT DOESN'T NEED:
High definition
three CCD
digital zoom
night shoot
special effects
titles
light
It ought be sturdy, well identifiable (for example red or yellow ) in order to avoid loss and theft and not too little ( buttons large and cleary identified )
it ought record on well established standard ( DV or MPEG2 ) on removable and cheap supports.
possibly 6 or 12 volt operated and standard connectors.

Per permettere agli studenti e agli insegnanti di imparare a controllare i principali parametri della ripresa audiovisiva essa deve avere ad un PREZZO BASSO alcune caratteristiche che sono generalmente vendute come "professionali"
DOVREBBE AVERE:
ingresso per microfono ( possibilmente bilanciato );
uscita per le cuffie;
uscita video analogico;
due comandi a rotella separati per fuoco e diaframma ;
comando dello zoom dolce e intuitivo ( orientato antero/posteriore e non
Dx/Sx )

luce di tally
funzione di fotocamera
NON HA BISOGNO DI:
alta definizione;

zoom digitale;
night shoot;
effetti speciali;
titoli;

dovrebbe essere robusta, ben identificabile ( ad esempio gialla o rossa ) per evitare smarrimenti e furti, e non dovrebbe essere troppo piccola in modo da avere comandi grandi e ben identificabili.
