Background (Preamble):
We write on behalf of the Garfield Park ARISE Entrepreneurs Network Ministry, a community development outreach of our church located at 4100 W. Jackson, Chicago, Illinois 60624. We serve a community in need; and believe that we, the people of Garfield Park, can bring about own solutions to improve many of our own financial situations, given training and educational resources.
We thank you for the funding, which brought us the University of Illinois Extension Cook County initiative. Eighteen adults per night, have to date attended seven (7), two-hour Extension seminars on Writing a Business Plan and Credit Facts for Business in our community room. Because of U of I Extension, we have opened our doors and provided these free, night classes to serve a real need and a desire for economic self-improvement and self-sufficiency. Please know how important this instruction is to our families.
We urge you and the other state legislators to find a way to maintain the funding for Cook County Extension, so that this valuable teaching (see attached schedule) will continue to help people with limited resources.
Please, let us know what your offices’ responses will be to University of Illinois Cook County Extension’s funding crisis.
