The situation in Southern Ukraine on the Crimean Peninsula is at a critical point of development. As NATO is aware, Ukrainian citizens calling themselves Russian have started a campaign calling for Crimea to leave Ukraine and be assimilated into the Russian Federation.
Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that he is ready to call out Russian forces from their base in Sevastopol. It is no secret that Russia eyes further territorial expansion into Eastern Europe. Russian actions in Crimea are a direct threat to the Territorial Integrity of Ukraine.
While NATO has stressed support for Ukraine’s Territorial Integrity, this support, without the backing of NATO military support in Ukraine, lacks the necessary strength to stop Russian agents and the Russian government from further provoking separatist actions in Crimea.
The Ukrainian people have made the first step towards NATO membership by overthrowing the usurper government of Yanukovich. What Ukraine needs, as a means of defending itself from those who seek to destroy the Territorial Integrity of Ukraine, is immediate accession and full NATO membership. Only with immediate full NATO membership and support from NATO countries, by stationing NATO forces in Ukraine, can Ukraine shake off the Spectre of Russian interference and expansionism in Ukraine.
The people of Ukraine deserve a better future with EU and NATO membership. This can be the only path for Ukraine and for Western Governments that do not want a second Iron Curtain and Cold War.
I therefore urge NATO to take immediate steps to bring Ukraine into NATO as a full member that is protected by NATO.
The people of Ukraine do not need more dead Heroes of Ukraine. Heroes Never Die! Maidan does not need more new memorials to new Heroes who died fighting for the Territorial Integrity of Ukraine. NATO must not follow EU failures on Ukraine!
We demand that:
1. NATO start (re)training and (re)qualifying Maidan Somooborona and the Ukrainian Police and Military;
2. The Verkhovna Rada vote Immediately on Ukraine’s accession into NATO.
3. That NATO Immediately accepts Ukraine as a full member.
In the event that Ukraine does not start forming a modern National Police and National Defence within 48 hours we demand the Immediate resignation of Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defence, Minister of the Interiour, the Parliament of Ukraine and the Secretary General of NATO.
