Target:
TWU #234 Transit Workers and Maintenance Union - SEPTA
Region:
United States of America

In the fall of 2008, transit workers and maintenance workers for SEPTA, TWU #234, received a ballot in the mail to vote on a pending increase in weekly union dues. Each union member was asked to complete the ballot and return to union headquarters via the U.S. Postal system by September 5, 2008.

Effective Friday, September 12, 2008, union members found an increase attached to their weekly payroll in the amount of $5 under the heading of Union Dues. The transit workers and maintenance workers of SEPTA, TWU #234 were unable to identify what member representation was present for the final ballot count giving majority vote of "YEA" for the increase in question.

In addition, members of SEPTA, TWU #234 were not and continue to be unaware of the purpose of the proposed dues increase. SEPTA, TWU #234 members find themselves paying additional fees associated to union dues for services and/or purposes undefined.

We, the undersigned, call on the Transit Workers Union #234 to hold a new vote at each division/district work site.

After each employee has voted Union Officials should tally votes received at each site for membership observation.

In addition, we call for Union Officials to clearly identify and distribute to its membership the purpose for said dues increase and its anticipated duration.
