Last fall we all watched the beautiful trees on the Red Oak Golf Course be cut down and taken away. The developer needed to exceed the tree removal maximum in order to get the approved number of homes on the site. The developer paid the City of Minnetrista $218,000 in fees for exceeding the tree removal maximum.

We are presenting a formal request asking the city to allocate some of the collected funds to plant trees along the perimeter of the adjacent properties. The money was collected for the removal of the vegetation on the site, and we feel it is logical to reinvest some of that money in the replacement of trees and shrubs around the site. Please sign our petition and contact our City Council to let them know you support this effort.

Thank you!

The undersigned residents of the City of Minnetrista and neighbors of the Red Oak development are making a formal request of the Minnetrista City Council to approve the use of some of the funds collected for the excess removal of trees from the Developer of the Red Oak site for planting additional trees and shrubs on the adjoining property lines.

The City of Minnetrista collected monies in the amount of $218,000 from the Red Oak site developer in payment for removal of more than the allotted circumferential tree removal maximum. As those monies were collected from the removal of vegetation at the site, it is logical to reinvest some of those monies in the replacement of trees and shrubs around the site. The Preliminary Plat application for the Red Oak Development identifies a removal of 2334 on-site caliper inches of trees in excess of the 30% allowed, bringing the total tree removal to 54% of what was existing on the property.

We are requesting that the Minnetrista City Council use the authority described by Mr. Abel in the 3 February 2014 City Council Minutes (Page 3 of 7, Paragraph 2) to issue grants to the homeowners with property adjacent to the Red Oak development for planting of trees and shrubs on their private properties or (park property) to provide buffering from noise and light pollution and improve the views of these homeowners.
