Scouts work hard day in, day out, to provide a pleasant environment to live and work in. Yet they have told The Oxford Student of "appalling" pay, struggling to make ends meet and having to take on multiple jobs to support their families.
Not all colleges pay their support staff a Living Wage - the £7.20 needed to live in an expensive city like Oxford.
The level is calculated by the Centre for Research in Social Policy at Loughborough University and takes into account food, childcare and rent and council tax.
When other universities can pay a Living Wage, it seems bizarre that Oxford colleges cannot pay a decent wage.
A rise from £6.50 an hour would cost colleges only about £1000 per staff member per year. This pales in comparison to colleges' millions of pounds worth of endowments.
