In 2011 there were 4,609 work related fatalities in the U.S. compared to 1,676 in the year 2010. These staggering numbers have left many employees forced to silently grieve the loss of their co-worker/friend while still fulfilling their daily work routines.
These same men and women are also the witnesses to these onsite accidents and suffer greatly with anxiety, depression and post traumatic stress disorder. The option to quit and work elsewhere is simply not an option and therefore they are forced to relive the accident on a daily basis.
By not getting these employees the help they need the chances of another on-site accident is now higher because of their mental anguish. Please help me provide some support for these grief stricken employees.
We, the undersigned, call on the U.S. to force all Corporations to provide free on/off site counseling to same shift employees after a work related fatality of a co-worker to ensure the safety of all employees moving forward.
