The proposed development comprises the erection of a new Lidl foodstore with associated access, car parking and landscaping. The store will extend to 2,460 sq. m gross internal area with a net sales of 1,424 sq. m.

The proposed foodstore will be supported by 126 car parking spaces, including five dedicated disabled and seven parent and child spaces and secure cycle and storage provision. Vehicular access to the site will be taken from a new proposed access on Land’s End Way to the east and at the junction of Land’s End Way and Barleythorpe Road to the south.

A new vehicular access is proposed off Land’s End Way in the north-east corner of the site. This will accommodate all traffic to and from the north, including deliveries. All HGVs will route to and from the site via Burley Park Way. The existing access in the south-east corner of the site will be utilised by traffic approaching from Barleythorpe Way. Comprehensive improvements will be provided at this location to address visibility and pedestrian safety issues. A dedicated pedestrian access to the site will also be provided direct from Lands End Way.

All waste will be stored within the warehousing area to the rear of the store and will be collected at the same time as deliveries, thereby minimising HGV movements. It should be noted that there will only be a maximum of two deliveries per day.

The development of the site will provide the following benefits to the local area:
• A purpose built store which provides a clean and fresh shopping experience to meet the needs of customers.
• A dedicated in-store bakery.
• Improved shopping choice and provision of a new mainstream discount operator for Oakham.
• A contemporary building design that will complement the surrounding area.
• Landscaping will improve the visual amenity of the site, including a soft landscaped area located along the eastern boundary of the site.

Several new job opportunities will be created by the development, with up to 40 new jobs to be created by the Lidl store alone. Lidl were the first major food retailer to pay its staff the UK National living wage

We, the undersigned, fully support Lidl’s application for the proposed Lidl food store on Land’s End Way to the east and at the junction of Land’s End Way and Barleythorpe Road to the south.
