On Wednesday 30th of May 2012, Premier O’Farrell made a promise to people of NSW.
Mr O’Farrell announced that national parks in NSW will be opened up to recreational hunters as part of a deal between the Shooters and Fishers Party and the government to ensure passage of its electricity privatisation bill.
Feral animals such as foxes, cats, dogs, pigs and goats are devastating the native flora and fauna in our national parks and thier numbers are rapidly increasing.
Current controls for feral animals in our national parks include poison baits, which are indescriminate in the species targeted, often consumed by our precious native animals directly, or via ingestion of the carcass of a poisoned animal. The poisons, such as 1080, take days of agonizing pain before the final death of the animal, which is all too often the spotted quoll or the endangered eagle these parks are designed to protect.
If you think its high time shooters were allowed to hunt in these areas (areas originally established BY hunters) to DIRECTLY target the feral species and PROTECT the native animals we love so much, please sign this petition to show your support for this long overdue decision.
We, the undersigned, support the NSW Government's decision to give approval for recreational hunting within NSW national parks and reserves.
