The First Ward of the city of Elizabeth needs a supermarket to create a more sustainable life for the members of our community.

Many of the residents of the First Ward make costly trips to stores such as Shop rite and Stop & Shop which are located in North Elizabeth and the Westminster area, respectively.

The last supermarket was removed from this section of Elizabeth years ago, leaving our residents to take multiple buses, costly taxis, and use more gas to commute to and from grocery stores. Services found at supermarkets such as grocery purchasing, pharmaceutical needs, and even bill payment centers are scattered all over the city, leaving residents to travel out of their way for tasks that can be completed in a familiar neighborhood at ease.

A supermarket in the First Ward would increase local business and group together common items and services found at multiple stores. Our community includes a large population of residents over the age of sixty-five and an even larger, steadily growing, number of families with children under the age of 18 who need a convenient, safe, and affordable community-based supermarket to satisfy all of their needs.

Finding everything needed under one roof is an invaluable service that would prove to be beneficial to the people of Elizabeth for years to come.

We, the undersigned, call on the City of Elizabeth to construct a supermarket in the First Ward.
