Students of Modern Languages programs at the University of Northern Colorado would like to express their concern over the decision made Monday April 11, 2016 to suspend both the French and German major programs.

By announcing this decision, the administration, provost, and dean of our college have effectively ended these crucial programs. Learning world languages fosters a community of cultural awareness and understanding that not only contributes to our campus, but to our nation. It is our responsibility as a world leader to promote diverse education, which enhances our ability as Americans to be engaged citizens domestically and effective ambassadors abroad.

While publicly advertising to prospective students our university's small class sizes, study abroad programs, and cultural diversity, UNC is denouncing each of these claims within. This decision is not maintenance of any policy on record, but a new statement for the disregard this campus apparently has for its students and other cultures.

Student voices, in every language, matter.

We, the undersigned, call on the University of Northern Colorado to reverse this decision in support of culture, language and students everywhere.
