Petition Background (Preamble):
I reside in a homeless shelter in Queens, NY and the staff is allowed into our rooms alone. I had my harddrive from my computer stolen at this same shelter a few years back.
It is a place for women and children alone, yet they allow the super and janitor, which are both men to enter our rooms alone when we are not there. To err is human and we are not allowed to be in staff's offices alone with "our" paperwork so how do they think we feel with our personal possessions.

Petition:
We, the people living in homeless shelters, ask to be treated fairly when it comes to our possessions.
We ask that any staff entering a unit be accompanied by another staff member or with a security guard.
We are sure that this move would improve the relationship with some residents and staff at shelters around NY who do not implement this rule as of yet.
