Penrith City Council wants to impose a fee on all fitness trainers for using public parks in the Penrith area.

They have decided to do this due to False Belief in a number of issues...

BELIEF 1) - Personal Trainers and Fitness Instructors make a profit from using public grounds.

FACT 1) - Very small profits as the clients only have a limited budget for a discretionary pastime such as fitness.

BELIEF 2) - We damage public parks and grounds through group classes like Boot Camp.

FACT 2) - We often assist in cleaning up broken bottles and needles in the parks as were there first. Ten to twenty people training in the corner of a park with running shoes can’t be compared with 30 people wearing studded running across the field’s boots week in week out.

How can organized training be singled out for causing damage to other equipment? What research has been done that indicates this statement?

BELIEF 3) - Some Personal Trainers are not insured or registered so again they should pay a fee.

FACT 3) - To operate a Professional & Legitamate Fitness Business in Australia requires Trainers to be Certificate 4 qualified with the appropriate Insurances up to date.

BELIEF 4) - It has been reported that some Trainers have caused conflict with local sporting teams in regards to the use of grounds during sporting times.

FACT 4) - If you ask around there probably has been all sorts of “conflicts” with general members of the public playing a social game of cricket when the field was already booked. Why single out Personal Trainers? - Open communication - not fees.

Are you also aware that the Services offered by Local Health and Fitness Practitioners directly benefits the Health, Wellness and Mobility of Council Rate Payers, resulting in a direct health expenditure reduction for Local and State Governments.

Any increase in the cost to offer these services will/could result in either the service being removed, or the costs to the clients increasing.

Do you really want this to happen?

We, the undersigned, call on Penrith City Council to abolish the introduction of any Fees and Charges for the use of Public Parks and Ovals by Local Health and Fitness Practitioners.
