Stop Redlight Cameras in Arlington County

Background (Preamble):
Red-light Cameras, which can be viewed as a violation of our rights under Article 1 section 8 of the Virginia constitution, are not safer as so stated by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Their statistical research is flawed not only mathematically but morally.
They cite biased research that was conducted by the Company that WON the contract for the install and maintenance when justifying the Camera's "effectiveness at reducing accidents." When in reality, objective third party research has shown that intersections equipped with red-light cameras, on average have a 42% INCREASE in accidents.
This difference in statistical data is because the VDOT fails to take into account rear end accidents at these intersections, which have markedly increased. The reason for this skew is that VDOT developed a new category of accidents for their report called "red light running accidents" which exclude these rear end accidents from the study.

This petition is to raise awareness as well as to prevent the change. When thinking of the facts of the situation, we see that the implication of these cameras show to cause the opposite results of their true purpose. It is from this we must ask, why are we considering this as a viable option.
Sign this petition to in order to show that, we the people, are against any and all red-light camera installations in the county, and any decision made by the county counter to ours will show the county's choosing monetary gain over the well being and safety of its constituency.
