The owners of 89 to 109 Niagara Street - Shimcor Developments - have filed an application with the City of Toronto requesting approval to re-develop the site to include a 19 storey and a 15 storey condo tower above a 250 car parking garage. The proposal also seeks to convert into condos the original brick buildings comprising 89 to 109 Niagara Street.

If Shimcor is successful, it will mean the eventual eviction of all Tenants from 89 to 109 Niagara street, resulting in the loss of a very unique and diverse, live-work community of artists, artisans, entrepreneurs and small businesses.

We, the undersigned, call on Councillor Mike Layton and the City of Toronto (Council and Planning Department) to reject the Shimcor application for redevelopment, and to take steps necessary to protect the Community of artist, entrepreneur and small business tenants living and working at 89 to 109 Niagara Street, a unique community that is socially and culturally distinctive in Toronto.
