Stop Packaging Local Fruit in Plastic
Target: Ontario Tender Fruit Producers and Loblaw Companies Ltd.
Thank you to everyone who supported and signed the petition. We closed with 1029 signatures, and have forwarded the petition to Loblaws and the Ontario Tender Fruit Producers. We'll post their response on our blog: www.noplasticproject.ca.
Petition Background (Preamble):
During the 2010 growing season, local Ontario fruit was packaged for sale at Loblaw Companies stores in single-use clamshell plastic containers. Plastic garbage has a well-documented negative impact on the environment and our health. Recycling of plastic also has negative environmental effects and is not a sustainable solution. Plastic packaging of locally grown fruit should be stopped.
As consumers, we can use this petition to voice our concerns and ask that the fruit producers and retailers review their decision and stop using plastic packages.
After signing with your NAME and LOCATION, please circulate the petition to others in Ontario.
We the undersigned ask that Ontario Tender Fruit Producers and Loblaw Companies Ltd. stop using plastic clamshell containers in the packaging of fresh fruit due to the negative environmental and health impacts of plastic pollution caused by such single-use containers.
