Rescuing animals is a wonderful experience, and we should all work together to make sure that homeless pets can find their way into loving homes. However, high numbers of rescue animals have environmental and behavioral issues that not every family can overcome. Each family should have a right to choose where their next pet will come from. Specific breeds should be considered based on what’s best for their family. Things to consider should include allergies, exercise, housing requirements, or simply choosing the breed you want or you grew up with. We strongly believe in Freedom of Choice!
Eliminating pet stores will eliminate the most regulated source for the community to buy puppies. It is our fear that this ban will cause the unregulated breeder industry to flourish in the face of having no other place to purchase animals locally.
The consequences of this pet ban have not been well thought out and will only be a disservice to the community as well as setting a precedent that the government can shut down local businesses that not only follow the letter of the law, but go above and beyond for their customers.
The Puppy Place is a family owned and operated business in the Tucson for 25+ years and prides itself on being one of the best pet stores in the country. We love this community and want to continue to serve it.
We would like to bring your attention to the following:
The existence of retail pet stores is being threatened by animal rights activists. Animal rights activists are lobbying lawmakers to pass laws that prevent the sale of puppies in retail pet stores, thus forcing consumers to only be able to purchase a dog from a rescue or pet shelter.
We believe that consumers should have the right to choose a puppy or dog from a:
• Responsible Professional breeder
• A pet store that guarantees and warrants the health of puppies received from local responsible families
• Shelters or rescues or local humane societies
