Oxford City Council has had a good history of tackling violence against women and supporting services for women. It has also taken a strong stance at adult sex shops and so called 'gentlemen's clubs'.
The opening of a lapdancing club in the City runs contrary to the Council's strong stance against the 'adult entertainment' industry.
We, the undersigned, call on Oxford City Council to do all in its power to prevent the establishment of so-called lapdancing and gentlemen clubs in Oxford.
Such clubs demean women and contribute to a view of women as 'sex objects' using their bodies to purely for men's sexual pleasure in the pursuit of creating profits for the club owners.
