Webster's Dictionary defines the word "actor" as: "one who represents a character in a dramatic production" but after countless roles with similar personas, one starts to wonder whether or not Keanu Reeves is actually "representing" a character in his dramatic productions.
True, Mr. Reeves stole our hearts with his distant stare, his well timed "Woah", and painfully obvious monologues, but we think the world has had enough.
If one were to dress any of Keanu's mediocre characters in a trench coat and sun glasses, a Matrix sequel would magically appear before our eyes. That's not to say that Reeves only has the ability to play "Neo" in his other roles, but that this re-appearing acting persona had the misfortune of being labeled as Neo.
In fact, this misfortune has escalated to such a high extent, that while watching Hard Ball (2001), I couldn't help but wonder why The Chosen One was coaching a baseball team or why Mr. Anderson was wearing a different outfit in Constantine (2005) and I walked out of The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008) feeling deeply disappointed after realizing Agent Smith had not made a cameo appearance.
But then I think back to better times, before the release of the 1999 Sci-Fi thriller, The Matrix. To a time when Keanu Reeves' coribantics on film were not labeled as "Neo", but simply, bad acting. A time when people around the world would not be disappointed by a Reeves performance, but regard it as just another failed attempt by an unknown ameatur.
Lets re-live these good times shall we?
We, the undersigned, feel that Keanu Reeves has failed us all as an actor and ask that everyone involved in the casting process of future feature films exclude Keanu Reeves from consideration.
We also urge all viewers of major motion pictures to refrain from watching any movies that include Keanu Reeves in its cast, as we have done.
