Lifting a dog of any size by the tail should be prohibited. Videos have been circulated of several dogs being lifted in such a way. This disturbing practice has been reported to AKC and Westminster Dog clubs. They defend this practice. Many Doctors and Scientists do not agree. A dog should never be lifted by the tail as it is 20+ vertebrae. Dogs are lifted in this way to preserve their hairdo.
Animal lovers worldwide are called upon to defend dogs being displayed at dog shows. It is common practice for handlers to carry dogs by the tail and under the throat, sometimes by the lead. AKC accepts this and has for years.
Based on veterinary advice and common decency we would like this practice prohibited.
