Regularly, show horses suffer extreme cruelty for the sake of a height certificate so they are eligible for a class with a height limit.
Because it is known and acknowledged that only full up to height horses will place in a class, people go to extreme measures to ensure their horse - which is often too tall for their class - measures a certain height. If showing societies ensured that horses at the smaller end of classes were not discriminated against, people would not practice such abuse as:
-restricting access to food and water.
-trimming feet back so much to cause extremely painful lameness.
-practicing measuring horse with a sharp pin attached to measuring stick, so the horse learns to shrink when being measured.
-exercising horse for large amounts of time to tire out horse so it will shrink.
We, the undersigned, call on all major showing societies and show organisers to prevent the barbaric practices used to ensure a horse is measured at a certain height.
