Interns have long been asked to work for free in order to get work experience. Whilst this is questionable, and skirts around minimum wage legislation.
As a result of the high levels of unemployment among students, a new practice of charging the unemployed for internships, up to £200 a day. I believe this is wrong, and requires new legislation.
I strongly object to the practice of charging for internships. We urge the D.O.E. to look closely at this practice, with a view to introducing legislation to outlaw the practice.
