This month the Spokane Transit Authority is holding a public hearing on their 2009 -2015 Transit Development Plan on November 20th, 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2008, in the Council Chambers, City of Spokane , 808 West Spokane Falls Blvd. , Spokane , Washington , 99201.

Now, as well as any time, is a good time to let Spokane Transit know there is demand or need for service in a certain area. Spokane Transit accepts public input on their plan and route requests via in person, written testimony, phone, or email. They actually count requests for service for a particular area and report those numbers to the Transit Board and Citizen Advisory Committee.

There are about 600 apartment homes at Beau Rivage and Riverwalk which are near the corner of Buckeye and Upriver Drive. The current bus service ends its route almost a mile from these apartment complexes. The residents, especially those with children that SNAP houses at Riverwalk, have been challenged to walk almost a mile to the bus, especially in the winter. The same is true for the residents of Beau Rivage. Often families who are living in apartments have incomes that are too low to afford other transportation. It should be efficient and responsible for Spokane Transit to expand its route about one mile to conveniently add many potential riders.

The more people that let Spokane Transit know they, their clients, employees, customers, or friends want and need bus service to Riverwalk at 4915 E. Upriver Drive or 5813 E. Buckeye, as well as people living at Beau Rivage Complexes, at 4707 E. Upriver Drive, the more likely the chance of getting bus service better located.

We, the undersigned, call on Spokane Transit Authority to extend their bus route to include 4915 E. Upriver Drive, 5813 E. Buckeye or 4707 E. Upriver Drive so we don't have to walk nearly a mile to catch a city bus.
