The speed limit in Thorndike on Church Street to Pleasant Street to Thorndike Street in Bondsville varies between 30 and 35MPH. This speed limit is very rarely adhered to/or enforced.

There is an extremely high volume of tractor trailers, buses and other large commercial vehicles utilizing this stretch of roadway on a daily and nightly basis. Since most of the area is considered residential and homes are well within the guidelines of being considered "thickly settled" (200 feet apart or less for 1/4 of a mile or more), a 25 MPH speed limit could be considered very appropriate.

In addition to reducing the speed limit for this area, a restriction on commercial vehicles between the hours of 10PM and 7AM, 7 days a week would greatly enhance the quality of life for residents who's homes front within a few feet of the roadway.

These large commercial vehicles frequently travel this route to get to the Mass Pike, Palmer's Industrial Parks and onward towards Belchertown and Amherst. During the nighttime hours they are quite often traveling well in excess of the speed limit and can create quite a bit of noise which is very disturbing to residents who may be trying to sleep in preparation for work.

Being jarred awake several times by a large vehicle storming by the house in the middle of the night is hardly conducive to a good night's sleep.

We the undersigned call upon the town of Palmer to reduce the speed limit from 30/35 to 25MPH and restrict travel of vehicles over 5 tons on Church Street / Pleasant Street / Thorndike Street between the hours of 10PM and 7AM.
