Some people in Collingwood and the surrounding area are protesting the Ontario and Federal Governments partial funding of a new soccer and indoor sports facility located at a Pretty River Academy a private school in the area.
The school is planning to make the facility available for public use outside regular school hours and is actually prepared to let Collingwood Town run this part of the operation.
It is my contention that this facility is needed and wanted in this area no matter who pays for or builds it. Our local soccer league has over 1,800 active house league and rep players; this would be a great asset to the area for a continuation of soccer throughout the winter.
If left to local school boards and town councils this facility will never be built and yet again this area will miss out on a huge opportunity.
