Shimon Peres should act now or resign the Nobel Prize

Mr Perez,

Your personal history is one of a man devoted to the establishment of a sound democracy based on peace in Israel and Palestine. For this reason, you were assigned the Nobel Prize for Peace, together with Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin, "for [your] efforts to create peace in the Middle East".

You are now the president of a State - Israel - which is not pursuing peace by any mean, as of today, end of december 2008. Although motivated by the Hamas aggression, the strength of the Israeli military reaction is so overhelmingly unproportioned to the received aggression that no one would ever agree to classify it as mere self defence. The distress of the population constrained in the overcrowded Gaza strip is untolerable.

For these reasons, we need to know your position concerning the war engaged by the Israeli nation. We feel that the Shimon Peres who represents todays' Israel cannot be the same as the beholder of the Nobel prize for peace; and that he (you) should be aware that the two things are incompatible.

For these reasons, we ask you either act publicly on the Israeli Goverment against the war, or to resign as the president of Israel with the motivation that you are against the war, or to return your Nobel medal to the Nobel foundation. You should demonstrate to the World that you long for peace, or honestly admit that you surrendered to war. You are a symbol, and symbols cannot trade with their meaning.
