With the introduction of run through Specialist Training, trainee numbers have increased greatly. There is no reflection of this in future consultant numbers.
On completion of training there will be resultant unemployment ensuring that care continues to be provided by the trainees and not by the trained consultants that the government had promised the nation.
We believe that without adequate planning for the near future patient care is potentially compromised and tax payers money has been wasted.
We, the undersigned, call on the Scottish Government to propose plans to cope with the large number of doctors completing training in the coming years.
We want a promise that the high level of patient care in Scotland is continued by ensuring the employment of the trainee consultants of the future.
