Markham Residents

Canada

The town of Markham has approved a Mosque on 16th Ave on a piece of Land that has been zoned for a place of worship since 2003. The mosque organization has met all of the city of Markham's requirements and worked very hard with the community to accommodate their feedback and make sure that the building will be a usable and practical addition to the Muslim community and to the multi-cultural face of Markham.

Some residents are opposing the mosque on the basis that "this does not fit here", relocate the mosque somewhere else, just not here, "parking and traffic issues" and outright racist statements that are not becoming of residents of a civil society. The issue of traffic and parking has been adequately addressed and most of the opposition is from people who are opposed to the idea of a Mosque on a discriminatory basis.

This petition is to support the City of Markham's decision in support of the building a mosque and to stop them from reversing their decision.

We, the undersigned thank the Mayor of Markham and Counselors for having approved the Mosque project on 16th Avenue and Williamson and ask them to not give in to hatred and bigotry.

We have confidence in the city and mosque organization that they will comply with all the required bylaws pertaining to Traffic, Parking, Environment etc.

We call on the City of Markham to continue their support for the Mosque project and not consider any reversal of their decision and show that they represent the truly multi-cultural face of Markham.
