Councillors have voted to scrap the market horse. Over the years the market horses have become an iconic part of the historic Chesterfield market. They have been responsible for ensuring the streets of Chesterfield town centre are kept clean whilst generating tourist interest.
The plans are set to be put into action around March 2012. This will incur a saving of just £11,000 a year.
Chesterfield is fast losing it's identity and is looking more like a generic town year by year and the market horses individualise the town and keep it's history alive.

We the undersigned do not wish to see the iconic Chesterfield Market Horse being axed and would urge councillors to rethink the proposal.
