The Saving Our Trees petition opposing certain aspects of the Mackey Park Proposed Upgrade by Marrickville Council received 25 signatures. Thank you to all those who signed. I am very grateful.

Jacqueline Yetzotis for Saving Our Trees

We the undersigned do not agree with Marrickville Council's proposed plans for the Mackey Park upgrade for the following reasons:

1. Six trees will be removed – two beautiful Figs because Council deems them too close to a proposed soccer field & too costly to manage, three trees because they are in the way of the proposed circuit path & one tree because it is located in the outer boundary of the proposed cricket oval.

2. The central pedestrian path & the lighting along this path will be removed.

3. The entrance to Mackey Park opposite Tempe Railway Station will be closed off forcing residents to walk up a hill & along a narrow footpath on Richardson Crescent which has heavy traffic, instead of through the middle of the park.

4. Mackey Park will be pitch black at dusk because Council intends to remove the central strip of lighting & the proposed lighting will only be used for night sports. This will create safety issues for residents.

• The 6 healthy trees must be retained & managed by Council.
• The entrance opposite Tempe Railway Station needs to stay.
• The central pathway & the central lighting needs to stay.
• The cricket oval does not belong in Mackey Park.
• Resident safety & community access comes first.
