Huizenga Family Farm owns 80 acres that we plant and sell produce from. We are a truck farm which means we truck all the home grown produce to farmers markets.
The knox county Zoning Department has notified us that we are in violation with section 5.401. Permissice uses, the growing of vegetables, fruit trees, grain, lowers and shrubs and the raising poultry, small animals, horses and cattle for the use by members of the family residing on the premises and not for commercial purposes.
We are growing established crop of raspberries on a parcel that is zoned residential we do not live on this parcel and it is connected to all of our other parcels that are zoned commercial. The zoning department is rewriting this ordinance but wont be done til 2014. Why should we have to mow an established crop when they are rewriting the ordinance.
Please sign the petition to help us save the Raspberries.
We, the undersigned, call on the Knox County States Attorney to eliminate the violations in regards to the Raspberries on Huizenga Family Farm.
The ordinance needs to be rewritten and the raspberries should stay and be able to be sold to our customers.
