Save the Orangutans of Indonesia
Petition published by Christina Gavin on Feb 20, 2012
| 1105 Signatures |
Target: Indonesian Minister of Environment
Region: Indonesia
Web site: www.christinasavestheorangutan.webs.com
Petition Background (Preamble):
My name is Christina Gavin and I have been studying environmental issues in Indonesia. In particular the effects that clear cutting and burning of the rainforest on the Islands of Borneo and Sumatra, for the purpose of harvesting lumber and creating Palm Oil plantations respectively, is having on the indigenous Orangutan population.
Considering both areas are the natural habitat of the Orangutan, I felt compelled to put my voice to paper when I heard that this animal is on the endangered species list.

Petition:
By signing this petition you are joining me in asking the Indonesian Minister of Environment to better regulate the clear cutting of the Indonesian rainforest, and to implement my simple proposal as follows:
For every tree cut in the future, that it be replaced by four new tress to help enhance the replacement of those trees already cut and help return the rainforest back to the Orangutans.
