Recently a mass email was sent out from the Marple Newtown School District administration advising the school community that all of the elementary school mascots in the district will be changed to Tigers starting in the 2016-2017 school year.
Our children started this petition to save their school mascots and the hard copy (paper copy) petition has over 250 signatures of students from 4th to 8th grade, school district employees, and some faculty members.
The Culbertson Cougars, Worall Wildcats, and Loomis Leopards have been around for 30 plus years, if not longer.
These mascots have been our children's foundation for school spirit since starting these schools in kindergarten, as well as some of ours as their parents. This petition is being sent out to you the alumni and the community so these symbols of our community stay the same for many future generations to come.
This is a petition for Marple Newtown School District NOT to change our elementary school mascots.
My name is Faith Torretti, and I am a graduate of Culbertson Elementary, and I am a current student of Paxon Hollow Middle School. My little brother C.J. is currently a 4th grader at Culbertson Elementary. This matter is very important to us as well as our classmates.
The mascots of our elementary schools signify where our educational foundations have started. The Culbertson Cougars, Worrall Wildcats, and Loomis Leopards are a part of our foundations of school spirit, teambuilding, and show a sense of our community.
Even though each elementary school student of Marple Newtown School District will eventually become a Marple Newtown Tiger once they graduate high school, they have to start as a small cat like a cougar, Leopard, or Wildcat and grow to be a big hat as all of the past students of MNSD have done.
The Culbertson Cougars have been around for 30+ years, we feel that the school district cannot take us away from us. The Cougars, Leopards, and Wildcats, all signify the schools, and stand for who we were and who we have become.
